Lucky Man...

Hello everyone...

Hope you've all had a wonderful weekend and as we head into a new week, it's time for the new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge to begin. This week our theme is all about adding A Bit O' Green to your projects and we hope you'll join us and play along.

For my make, and with St. Patrick's Day in mind, I chose to go full on green and used a combination of Tim Holtz products from Sizzix and Stampers Anonymous to create my project which features plenty of layers.

So, let's get started and it's time to share all the details of how I created this lucky man...

To begin with I used a Size 8 Stampers Anonymous Etcetera tag and a Facade which I twisted around to have the point at the bottom.

FACADE

The facade is covered with some of the Large Collage Strips from Tim's idea-ology range. I cut the strips down into smaller sections, so that they fit the facade perfectly and then attached them using Matte Collage Medium.

I applied a coat of the medium over the top, and once this was dry I used the Walnut Stain Distress Crayon to add a vintage touch, applying it around the edges of the facade and in between each of the joins of the collage strips.

At the bottom of the facade, I placed a Machinery Head which I painted green with Rustic Wilderness Distress Paint. I then added a touch of gold Gilding Wax over the top.

TAG

Moving onto the tag and for this I used a Size 8 Mixed Media Heavystock Tag and the size 8 Etcetera Tag.

To begin with I lightly misted water onto a Heavystock tag before applying the colour using the following Distress Stains and Oxide Spray.

Distress Spray Stains: Speckled Egg, Rustic Wilderness, Black Soot

Oxide Spray: Speckled Egg

Once I was happy, I heat dried the tag before inking the numbers strip stamp from the Stampers Anonymous Curiosity Shop Stamp Set by Tim with a Versamark Clear Embossing Pad. I stamped the numbers down the right hand side and then sprinkled the ink with gold embossing powder. Heat set the powder until molten.

To add more detail to the background, I used the Botanic Collage stamp set and used Black Soot Archival Ink to stamp the print from one of the stamps in this set down the left hand side.

After machine stitching a border around the outside edge, I mounted the tag onto the Etcetera Tag using Matte Collage Medium and then mounted this onto my covered Etcetera Facade using the risers from the facade pack to add height to this piece.

COLOUR WHEEL

Now to create the colour wheel and using the round viewfinder dies from the Picture Show Die Set, I cut the solid piece and the top layer, together with the smaller inner pieces that will become the shades of green that sit around the wheel.

I added colour to the main wheel with Old Paper and Frayed Burlap Spray Stains, and once these were dry, I inked the edges with Walnut Stain Distress Ink. Adhere the top layer to the bottom layer.

I inked the small die cut squares with shades of green Distress Inks. You can choose which colours of green you prefer for this.

I then inked the edges of each square with Walnut Stain DI before placing each one into the wheel.

To complete the wheel, I attached Screw Heads and altered these with Black Soot, Antique Bronze, Crackling Campfire to add a rusty finish to the metal.

With the colour wheel complete, I wanted to build up the central section and used the Sizzix Vintage Labels Die Set by Tim Holtz (unfortunately this is now retired and if you don't own it, then you can replace this layer with a circle cut from red card), and the SSS Basic Shapes Circle Die Set to cut 4 circles, 3 from Mixed Media Heavystock card and 1 from gold metallic Kraft stock. The size of the first circle needs to fit in the centre of the wheel and the remaining 3 circles are in descending order.

After inking each circle, I layered them and attached the completed layers to the centre of the picture wheel using foam pads.

Mount the wheel onto the tag using foam pads to add height and dimension.

TAILORED

In the centre of the colour wheel, I used the bowler hat and the suit and bow tie from the Tailored Die Set. I cut all my pieces from inked and stamped cardstock that I have in my scrap box. This is such a great way of using up these tiny pieces of scrap card, and of course you can choose to create unique designs to the clothing.

All the pieces were assembled them to create the two pieces of clothing.

After adding the button from my stash to the centre of the bow tie, I mounted each piece onto the layered circles, again using foam pads to add even more height.

I then placed the 13¢ piece from the Junk Drawer Baseboard pack in the centre before attaching a screw head to either side of the piece, again altered with the same colours of Distress Paint as used previously.

LUCKY CLOVER

For the clover leaves, I used the stamp from the Curiosity Shop stamp set, together with coordinating SSS die.

I stamped four separate images of the clove leaf with Versamark clear embossing ink onto card inked with Rustic Wilderness Distress Ink and then sprinkled the gold embossing powder over the top. Heat emboss until molten and glossy.

Die cut each of the four leaves and then layer them over one another, attaching them by the centres and shaping the leaves to create two dimensional pieces.

Attach the two leaves to the tag, placing them in the bottom left corner. In the centres of each leaf, I added a gold Metallic Droplet.

I had the Air Mail label, stamped and cut from the Correspondence stamp and die bundle leftover on my desk from a previous project and I thought it was perfect for this make. I attached this to the clover arrangement using foam pads.

FINISHING DETAILS

We're nearly there and all that's left is the finishing details...

I added a mini book ring through the hole at the top of the tag and a Mini Pin to the stitched section on the right hand side...

...before finally completing the project by adding a "Lucky" sticker to the top left hand corner of the tag.

So, that's my project finished and I hope you love the piece I've made and you've been inspired by some of the techniques I've used.
As always, if you make anything, or if you've been inspired by anything that you've seen here on my blog ~ then please, let me know by tagging me on social media or leaving a comment here and I will be right over to take a look!

All That Jazz....

Happy New Year!

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and Festive Holiday season and I hope you're now ready for 2024, which I can guarantee is already going to be an exciting Tim Holtz making season!

Today the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge team are back after their break and we have a brand new challenge starting today, which is appropriately called A NEW START! So, whether you received new goodies for Christmas, want to make a new year card or just want to try a new technique, then this is the challenge for you and we hope you'll join us and play along! The DT are showcasing the products of Brutus Monroe.

For my make, I chose to create a card to celebrate 2024 and all those new adventures that a new year, and new start bring with it and I combined products from Tim Holtz, Sizzix and Stampers Anonymous with a Brutus Monroe stencil to create my 1920's inspired card...

It's time for that new start, new year and a brand new challenge....

This gold card base measures 21 x 12.5cm and uses a Size 8 tag which I mounted onto the stencilled background panel. I'm hoping the photos do the gold embossing justice, but UK weather hasn't been the best and some of the shimmer and shine has been lost.

ENAMELLED STENCILLED BACKGROUND

To begin with I cut a piece of Distress Black Heavystock card measuring 19.5 x 10cm and I placed the Macrame Stencil over the top before applying Translucent Grit Paste through the design. After removing the stencil and working quickly, I sprinkled Gold Embossing Powder over the top and set the panel to one side to dry.

Once the paste feel firm to touch, I heat embossed the powder on a very low setting. You can build up the heat if you want, but be careful not to overheat the paste as this will cause it to bubble.

Once the powder had become molten and glossy, I attached the panel to a piece of black card, followed by gold metallic kraft card. I used foam pads to mount this onto a further panel of black card, that had a border which I machine stitched around the edge and finally attached the panels onto my gold card blank. The background is now complete and ready for the tag.

TAG

For the tag, I began by misting the tag with water and then adding the colour, and used Distress Spray Stains and Oxides Sprays in the following colours:

DISTRESS SPRAY STAINS: Speckled Egg, Uncharted Mariner, Walnut Stain and Stormy Sky

OXIDE SPRAYS: Speckled Egg, Broken China

MICA SPRAYS: Unravelled

After another mist of water, and a few flicks of both colours of Oxide Sprays, I heat dried the tag thoroughly.

Making sure my tag was dry, I then applied Crackle Paste through the Stampers Anonymous Falling Stars Layering Stencil, and whilst the paste was still wet, I sprinkled a combination of Distress Glaze over the top. These include:

Fossilized Amber, Speckled Egg, Salvaged Patina and Broken China

I just randomly sprinkled each powder to create the colour on the background. Tap away the excess, and again set the tag to one side to dry before heat embossing the powder, until it becomes molten.

After inking the edge of the tag with Walnut stain Distress Ink, I then machine stitched a border and matted it onto black kraft card. I then mounted the tag onto the centre of my card blank.

At the top of the tag, I placed an Index Clip idea-ology piece and then added a Hardware Head to the centre. Both pieces are altered with a touch of Distress Paint; Black Soot, Crackling Campfire and Antiqued Bronze.

We're now ready to embellish the tag and to add all that jazz....

SENTIMENT

The sentiment is stamped onto a die cut circle of mixed media heavystock card which I coloured with the same sprays as I used on the background.

I then used clear embossing ink to stamp the sentiment from the Festive Overlay stamp set in the centre. You will notice that I masked off the 'in the new year' part from sentiment.

Sprinkle gold embossing powder over the top and then heat emboss until molten. I then flicked a light coverage of gold paint over the circle before matting it onto a mount which is cut from gold metallic kraft card, using the Seal Die and Switchlits Embossing Folder.

I then mounted the sentiment onto my tag, using foam pads.

TAILORED

For the hat and suit, I used the Tim Holtz Tailored Die Set from Sizzix and cut all of my pieces. I chose a black suit, black top hat and red accessories, but you can choose whatever colours you prefer. For the bow tie, I added polka dots with a white pen.

As a final touch I added a tiny vintage metal bead onto the shirt and a gold adornment star onto the hat.

I then used foam pads for height to attach the pieces to my tag.

2024 STARS

The stars across the bottom of the tag, are all cut using the largest die from more of the card that I used for the sentiment and I used the the Falling Stars die set. I then layered each star over gold metallic card again cut with the same die, to create a drop shadow and outline.

I then attached them in a swathe across the tag using various depths of foam pads.

On each star, I added the numbers, 2024, again cut from gold Metallic kraft card using the Alphanumeric Bold Thinlits dies and layered these onto the stars.

FINISHING DETAILS

For the final details, I added Hardware Heads painted with Candied Apple distress Paint for a chippy vintage look and placed these in each corner of the card....

...and finally I added the Metallic Sticker, The Adventure Begins beneath the 2024.

So, that's my card ready for 2024 and I hope you've loved the tricks and techniques I've used to create it.

As always, if you make anything, or if you've been inspired by anything that you've seen here on my blog ~ then please, let me know by tagging me on social media or leaving a comment here and I will be right over to take a look!

A Pocketful of Rainbows...

Hello everyone...

Can you believe it's Monday...again?!?! Where are the weeks going? Where is the year going? It's flying...but as always, a new week brings a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge and this week our theme is called, RAINBOW and with so many products to inspire you, the DT can't wait to see what you'll  be creating to join us and play along with our fun theme.

For my make, I chose to use the colours of the rainbow, "red and yellow, and pink and green, orange and purple and blue", to create a background for my project. Now, I will admit that bright colours aren't my go to colour scheme but I gathered a selection of Tim's Oxide Inks and just went for it and hope you love the finished piece that I've made.

So let's get started, it's time to share all the details of my lucky tag...

For this make you'll need a Size 8 Mixed Media Heavystock Tag and a sheet of Mixed Media Heavystock card.

BACKGROUND

To begin with, I'll start with the background layers and I made two separate backgrounds, the tag and a second panel that I mounted the tag onto.

Using the Brush Arch Stencil from the brand new Stampers Anonymous/Tim Holtz 2023 release, I placed the stencil over the tag and then applied my rainbow of Oxide Inks through the stencil, using blending brushes.

COLOURS USED Cracked Pistachio, Peacock Feathers, Wild Honey, Mustard Seed, Fossilized Amber, Kitsch Flamingo

Once I was happy, I removed the stencil and then spritzed the tag with a light mist of water to move the inks slightly, before heat drying the surface.

To add layers to my background, I inked the script stamp from the Exquisite Stamp set with Wild Honey Oxide Ink and rolled the stamp over the background, just allowing the stamp to catch areas of the card, not create a solid image.

I then added some more layers by inking just the newsprint section from two stamps in the Botanic Collage stamp set, with Black Soot Archival Ink and stamping around the edge.

In the top right hand corner of the tag, I added the "free" Remnant rub from the Labelled set.

After inking the edges of the tag with Walnut Stain Distress Ink, I machine stitched a border around the outside and layered the tag over the top of the second panel of cardstock, cut slightly larger than the tag, and inked using the same stencil and the same colours.

Punch a hole through the layers, and then I added rope through the hole in the top of the tag.

Cut a panel of card, slightly larger in size than the stencilled background layers and apply a border of the black/white dot design tape around the edge. Matt this onto silver metallic kraft card and then onto a card blank made with Black Heavystock Card.

I used foam pads to mount the tag layers onto the card blank.

S.M. TINKHAM AND SON ADVERTISING PANEL

Cut a strip of the Mixed Media Heavystock card, 3cm in depth and 8'5cm in length.

After inking the strip using Mustard Seed Oxide Ink and the Brush Arch Stencil, I machine stitched the two sides of the strip and then stamped the advertising logo onto the card.

Attach the strip across the tag using foam pads and use some more of the black and white dot design tape along the top and bottom of the strip to create a trim and border.

We now have the surface ready to embellish....

UMBRELLA

I love images of umbrellas, it's just one of those things that appeals to my imagination and I have always had a soft spot for this umbrella die cut from Sizzix The Gent Die Set by Tim Holtz, so what better die to use to create a rainbow umbrella.

I cut the solid canopy and pole section of the umbrella, together with two separate layers of the spokes  from Black Heavystock card and then cut the inlay pieces from Mixed Media Heavystock card.

Starting with the inlay pieces, I inked each piece with Distress Inks, Mowed Lawn, Mustard Seed, Mermaid Lagoon and Candied Apple.

Moving onto the solid umbrella canopy/pole die cut, cut away the handle before applying the Embossing Dabber over the pole section only and then sprinkle a combination of Liquid Platinum Embossing Powder and Gold Embossing Powder over the top. Heat emboss the powder and then repeat the process to create an enamelled look.

I then repeated this technique on one of the 'spokes' die cut piece before layering all my sections to make the umbrella and create dimension.

To build the layers, I started by attaching the spoke die cut that wasn't embossed, then attached the inlay pieces and then finally attached the embossed/enamelled spoke layer over the top of the inlay pieces to complete the umbrella.

TAILORED

Now to make up the hat and jacket using the Tailored Thinlits die set. I used the bowler hat and the tie for this particular piece, all of which are cut from Mixed Media Heavystock card and then coloured with Distress Spray Stains.

Bowler HatBlack Soot, Walnut Stain, Brushed Corduory, Ground Espresso, Antique Linen and Frayed Burlap Oxide Spray.

Hat BandCandied Apple and a white gel pen to add polka dots

Suit: Black Soot, Walnut Stain, Brushed Corduory, Ground Espresso, Antique Linen and Frayed Burlap Oxide Spray.

Shirt and Waistcoat: Speckled Egg

Tie: Candied Apple and a white gel pen to add polka dots

Once I'd assembled my hat, jacket and tie, I used foam pads to attach the individual pieces to my card, together with the umbrella.

To add a little quirky, fun detail to the jacket, I cut a daisy from the Bunny Games Die Set and just popped this on the lapel of the jacket.

FINISHING DETAILS

To complete the card, I attached two hardware heads in the bottom left and right hand corners....

...and then attached a mini pin into the right hand side of the panel.

So that's my make finished for this week, and I hope you love my rainbow of colours card and how I chose to use them to bring this piece to life.
