Hello friends and Happy Monday...
As we start a brand new week, we begin our new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge and this week our theme is called Delicious Drinks and we hope you'll join us, raise a glass or clink your coffee cup and play along with this fun challenge!
With so many different interpretations of this theme, and so many products that can be used, I decided to try and think outside the box and with my favourite time of year just around the corner, I created a tag all a favourite drink of mine ~ Pumpkin Spice Latte and used some of the brand new Halloween dies from Sizzix and Tim Holtz to bring this project to life!
For this make, I used a Tim Holtz Mini Sized Etcetera Tag from Stampers Anonymous and applied Design Tape down the two sides of the tag.
BACKGROUND
We'll start with the background and for this I cut a panel of Mixed Media Heavystock card to fit the front of my tag, slightly narrower in width to show the design tape down the sides. I then applied Black Texture Paste through the Hocus Pocus Layering Stencil.
Once the paste was dry, I then started spritzing the colour onto the background using the Halloween Mica Stains in Ominous Twilight, Phantom Mist and Specimen, blending the colours with a light misting of water before allowing the background to blend and dry. You can use a heat tool for this, but remember to apply only gentle heat over the pasted areas. It's so hard to photograph the shimmer that these Mica Stains give but you can see a slight hint in the photo below....
Once I was happy, I inked the edges with Black Soot Distress Ink before machine stitching a border around the outside. Adhere the panel onto the front of the tag using Matte Collage Medium.
Along the bottom of my tag, I added a wooden trim from the Bat Web Trims pack which I painted with Black Soot Distress Paint. I attached the trim to the tag and then applied some of that amazing new Black Texture Paste along the trim to create more of a gnarly finish to the surface before applying a touch of gilding wax from my stash over the surface to accentuate the paste.
WORDING
Along the bottom of the tag, I created my wording and began by cutting the letters using the Bold Text Alpha Die for the word "Pumpkin" and the Upper Tiny Type for the 'Spice Latte Season'. For the word Pumpkin, each letter was cut from Metallic Kraft Card and then two layers of black card to create the thickness of each letter. To knock back the shiny gold finish, I applied some Black Soot Distress Paint and Burnt Sienna Acrylic Paint using a brush to just dab the surface with the paint.
I then cut my letters for the "Spice Latte Season" banner that sits underneath, again cutting each letter from gold metallic kraft card and then layering them over the top of a strip of the card. I used the same technique as on the previous letters to alter the metal and then matted the strip onto black card, before attaching it to my tag using foam pads. I then attached the word Pumpkin above the strip, placing each letter directly onto the background.
We're now ready for the star of the show...say hello to Edison!
EDISON
To create Edison, I cut all my pieces that need to be inked from Mixed Media Heavystock card, including a second die cut of the top layer, and a backing layer from Black Kraft Card.
I inked each layer with a combination of Distress Inks:
Spiced Marmalade, Fossilised Amber, Crackling Campfire, Rusty Hinge and Wild Honey for the main body and Rustic Wilderness and Peeled Paint for the stalk.
I assembled Edison by layering the pieces over the top of one another and then using the second die cut of the final layer, I shaped his teeth so that they stick out and are kinda goofy, before I attached this top layer to complete the pumpkin and create the dimension.
I inked around the edges with Black Soot Distress Ink before flicking Unravelled Mica Stain over the surface. I then used the Splatter Brush to flick Black Soot Distress Paint over the top and set Edison to one side.
As a base for Edison, I used the grass verge from the Oliver Colorize Die Set and cut this from some inky green card in my stash.
CLOUDS
The clouds are all cut from more of the Mixed Media Heavystock card and then spritzed with Phantom Mist. I then inked around the edges before layering them over a die cut layer of silver metallic kraft stock card to create the moonlit shadow.
I mounted the clouds across the top section of my tag using foam pads and allowing the ends to just overlap the edges.
The moon and the bats are die cut using the dies in the Big Frights die set and I inked the moon with Mustard Seed and Fossilised Amber Distress Inks and cut the bats from black card, which I then spritzed with more of the Phantom Mist Mica Stain. I then attached these into the cloud arrangement.
To complete the scene, I placed two of the die cut bats amongst the clouds and shaped their wings so they appear to be in flight.
BRINGING THE TAG TOGETHER
Using foam pads, I attached Edison to the tag and sat him on his little grassy verge.
To either side of Edison, I added a fence, which I die cut using the Halloween Vault Die Set. I cut two layers of the fence from black card, and adhered them over the top of one another to form one piece. I cut the fence in half and placed one section on the left behind the pumpkin....
....and then twisted the remaining piece, and placed this on the right.
I attached little clumps of moss around the base of the pumpkin and also tucked pieces of Spanish moss into the arrangement to add some more texture.
I then completed the scene with a little "Hello" sign which I stamped onto a scrap piece of card, using the Tiny Text Stampers Anonymous set by Tim Holtz, cut down to size and then placed into a memo pin which I tucked into the moss.
FINISHING TOUCHES
Finally, I completed the tag with 31¢ Ephemera piece, that I adhered to the background with Matte Collage Medium and then attached two Hardware Heads in the top left and right hand corners of the tag, both of which I altered with a little Crackling Campfire and Black Soot Distress Paint.
I finished the tag with a Hinge Clip at the top.
So that's my project finished for this week, which I hope you love and which I hope has inspired you to try some of the techniques that I've used.

Edison is the best! We have to start celebrating Pumpkin Spice Lattes, as the season is never long enough. Good to know that Edison is a Pumpkin Spice Latte fan...LOL. Love this!
