Shine Like A Diamond...

Hello friends...

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed Tim's latest party over on YouTube. Thank you for all the wonderful comments and messages about my make ~ I've read them all and they've meant the world to me! If you haven't seen the LIVE yet, then you can catch up with the replay here.

So back to today, and we have a brand new challenge starting today over on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog and this week our theme is...Fabulous Florals!

With so many beautiful flower products available, I'm sure this is going to be a popular challenge, and if you'd love to join us, then the DT are looking forward to seeing what you create.

For my make, I chose to use the gorgeous Floral Elements Stamp Set, combined with one of the new products from the brand new Tim Holtz Chapter 3 release by Sizzix and I made a tag card, that celebrates friendship.

Let's get started because it's time to get creative...

I began by making my card blank, and using a Mini Etcetera Tag as a template, I drew around the outline and then cut the card to create the tag shape, which has a fold at the top. I then covered the card front with a panel of paper from the Etcetera paper stash and machine stitched a border around the edge, leaving some of the threads to hang loose.

At the top of my card blank, I used a tab ~ this is one of the new dies in the Specimen Thinlits Die Set and I cut it from Mixed Media Heavystock card that I had inked with a combination of Old Paper and Antique Linen. I then attached the folded tab to the top fold of my card before applying a 'Fig 2' Speciment Remnant Rub.

With my card ready, it's time to add those layers and we'll start with the background....

BACKGROUND

For the background to my card, I used the Linked Circles Layering Stencil for a monoprint technique. I inked the back of the stencil with a combination of Crackling Campfire, Picked Raspberry, Wild Honey, Spiced Marmalade Distress Inks and then lightly spritzed over the top with water.

I then flipped the stencil over and placed it directly onto a panel of Distress watercolour card to transfer the print onto the surface.

I use a paper towel to dab away any excess water or ink, before lifting the stencil to reveal the print.

After I heat dried the card, I inked the edges with Old Paper Distress Ink, and then flicked droplets of Picked Raspberry over the surface.

To add more interest to the background, I inked up one of the stamps from the Botanic Collage Stamp set with Jet Black Archival Ink and randomly stamped the newsprint part of the stamp onto my background.

After matting the background onto a panel of cream cardstock, I mounted it onto my card front using foam pads.

PHOTO

Moving onto the photo, and for this I used one of Tim's Photobooth images and the slide die from the Specimen Die Set. After applying clear gesso over the photo to prime it, I colour tinted the photo with Distress Crayons and a water brush.

I cut the slide from card that I had in my stash ~ from what I can remember, I inked it with Speckled Egg, Frayed Burlap and Antique Linen Distress Spray Stains.

I placed the photo inside the slide die cut and then folded it in half and adhered it shut. I then added Hex Fasteners to each corner of the slide.

I then added some crackle paste to the corners of the frame, and once the paste was dry, I inked the edges with Walnut Stain Distress Ink.

I then wrapped twine around the wider part of the frame and tied this into a knot before attaching a mini pin and a tiny tag.

The tiny tag is cut using the Collector Thinlits Die Set and I then used Remnant Rubs to add a date, 1965. I'm sending this card to a friend, so that's why I chose this date which I made up from numbers in the remnant rub pack.

I attached the slide to the card front, placing it on the right hand side using foam pads.

FLOWERS

Now we can move onto the flowers and for this I used the Floral Elements stamp set and stamped some flowers and foliage onto watercolour card.

I then watercolored them with Distress Inks that I applied as a palette onto my glass mat and using a water brush, I picked up the colour to add to each stamped image.

Flowers: Crackling Campfire, Picked Raspberry, Wild Honey, Candied Apple with Black Soot centres and white pen highlights

Leaves: Shabby Shutters, Bundled Sage, Peeled Paint

I blasted them dry with a heat gun and then fussy cut each individual element.

I arranged the flowers and foliage to cascade down the card and around the photo, attaching them with various depths of foam pads to add dimension.

Finally, I added a stamped sentiment, Shine Brightly taken from the Noteworthy stamp set.

I stamped this onto an offcut of paper from the Etcetera paper stash and then mounted the sentiment onto a scrap of cotton calico.

I then attach the sentiment beneath my floral arrangement.

To complete the card, I added two small paper clips on the top right hand corner.

...and that is my card finished, ready to send to a friend who is celebrating a birthday next week!

It's Our Party ~ Shine Like The Stars

Hello friends...

So sorry for not sharing a project last week, and thank you to everyone who messaged me to see if everything was ok but unfortunately, I had an internet upgrade which went a little wrong and as a consequence I was left for a week without internet ~ so frustrating but I'm back and there's no more watching that little wheel turning before my eyes as I try to load a page because I now have super fast broadband!

Anyway, back to this week and the brand new Monday challenge at Simon Says Stamp, which is all about Birthday Celebrations, because the SSS Monday Challenge is officially 11 years old, and that means it's time to party! The DT are showcasing AALL & Create products within their projects and we hope you'll join us and play along!

For my project, I made a card using an AALL & Create stamp set featuring the one and only Charlie Chaplin and of course, it wouldn't be one of my pieces without including a few Tim Holtz products, which includes a Distress Ink background, applied through the Bubble Layering Stencil, those beautiful Sizzix Balloons and a Quote Chip.

So let's get started ~ it's time for me to share this project and here's how I made this piece...

To begin with I made the background. I used the monoprint technique for this background and all you need for this is a panel of Distress watercolour card measuring 10 x 14.5cm, inks, water mister and a stencil. Taking the Bubble Layering Stencil, (THS002) I applied Distress Inks directly over the surface. I used Mustard Seed, Candied Apple, Wild Honey, Peeled Paint and Weathered Wood and just applied the inks to random areas of the stencil.

I then lightly misted the stencil with water, flipped the stencil over, placing it directly onto my card panel. I then pressed the stencil lightly to ensure a good coverage and at this stage, used a paper towel to dab away any excess ink so that it would give me a really good impression. After removing the stencil, I heat set the ink and then inked the edges with a little Frayed Burlap Distress Ink.

I then added some machine stitching around the outside to create a border.

I mounted my panel onto black card, followed by a layer of silver metallic kraft stash card.

Using foam pads, I then mounted the layered panels onto a further panel of black card, with machine stitching around the edge in cream cotton thread and a final layer, which is something I do quite often is is actually a panel of white card, but I edge this with some washi tape ~ and this time I used AALL & Create Twine Washi Tape, and this gives the appearance of patterned paper. I mounted my layers onto a card blank.

I now have the background ready to add the star of the card, Charlie...

...and to begin with I stamped and watercolored the image of Charlie. I used Distress Re-Inkers for the image, applying the colour with a Fine Tipped Waterbrush and then I add shading to complete the image using Polychromos Pencils. I finished the image by adding some stripes to Charlie's trousers with a black fine line pen before fussy cut it out.

I also stamped the ticket and clapperboard from the same stamp set and once again I watercolored the image and then fussy cut around the outline.

I attached the image onto the card front, placing Charlie and the clapperboard onto a Theories Quote Chip, Shine Like The Stars". I sanded the chip around the edges and inked it with Frayed Burlap Distress Ink before attaching it to my background using Matte Collage Medium. To ground the images, I added some Mummy Cloth, dyed with Frayed Burlap and Antique Linen Distress Spray Stains.

To complete the chip, I added Hardware Heads to either side which I altered with a little Crackling Campfire, Vintage Photo and Black Soot Distress Paint for a more rusty look to the metal.

Taking the little stamped Cinema ticket, I attached this by tucking it underneath the matted layers of background and just let it overhang the edges of the card. I also attached two mini paperclips onto the panel.

Now for the balloons, and for these I used the Sizzix Circle Play Thinlits Die by Tim Holtz. I inked some Mixed Media Heavystock Card with a combination of Festive Berries, Candied Apple and Fired Brick Distress Inks and then blended the colours with a mist of water. Once the card was dry, I used the dies to die cut all the pieces I needed to created three separate balloons. I also cut the strings from black card.

I assembled the balloons and then attached these to my card, using foam pads for some extra height and then adding the strings to dangle down.

Once of these I extended to make it slightly longer by cutting it twice and sticking it together to form one long string.

I finished the balloon arrangement with some red cotton thread.

Finally, I added a Specimen Remnant Rub in the top left hand corner, and that completes my card and this week's project....

...and as always, if you make anything, or been inspired by anything that you've seen here on my blog ~ then please, let me know by tagging me on social media or leaving a comment here and I will be right over to take a look!

Forever Blowing Bubbles...

Good morning friends...

Hope you're all having a great week!?! Mine has been another busy one and I've been doing lots of prep for new projects but I think Mr Mojo still wants to be on his Christmas and New Year break and at the moment, he isn't playing nicely!! Oh well, I'm sure if I coax him with treats and copious amounts of coffee, he might come out of hiding and pay me a visit!! *crosses fingers tightly*, lol!!

In the meantime, here's some cards that I made earlier for the Clarity Stamp shows that were on last weekend. As always, I hope you love what I've made...
The first card has a background created using the Gelli Plate and one of Barbara's beautiful stencil designs. After all the work to create this monoprint, I wanted to really showcase the background with this card, and as with all my Clarity samples, I didn't want to overcomplicate the card. So, I added and stamped this wonderful quote from Clarity Stamp onto some card which I die cut into an oval shape and used some natural twine and seam binding. To complete the card I added a small embellishment made from UTEE, melted in the Melt Pot.

And last but by no means least, here are a couple of my other samples from the shows...

So, that's it from me for today and as always, I really appreciate you taking the time to visit me and I'd just like to say a big thank you for all the lovely comments on my last post!! *big smiles*

I'll be back soon but I hope you all have a fab day and bye for now!
