Be Thankful...

Hello friends and welcome to another brand new week over on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog! This week the team are showcasing Indigoblu products and combining them with our Thanksgiving theme where we are all about be thankful...

For my project this week, I chose to use an Etcetera Tag and decorate it with beautiful, gilded autumnal leaves, die cut using the Layered Leaf die from Tim Holtz and covered with Mega Flakes by Indigoblu.

To begin I took the small Etcetera tag and applied a coat of gesso over the surface. I heat dried the paint to quicken my drying time and then layered my paints over the top, starting with Antique Linen and blending it with a little Picket Fence. Once I was happy with the depth of colour, I then added some Frayed Burlap over the top, blending it with a semi dry wet wipe.

I then heat set all the paint before moving onto the next layer of tissue tape, which I tore and applied onto the left hand side of my tag ~ this will create my base layer. I then used Chipped Sapphire, Rusty Hinge and Vintage Photo Distress Crayons over the top of the tape to add some colour, again blending it out with the wet wipe and my fingers.

To add more depth, I then went in with the Dot Fade Layering Stencil and applied Jet Black Archival Ink through the stencil onto areas around the outside of the tape.

For the final layer, I needed some texture and applied Grit Paste through the Crossed Stencil from the Mini Layering Stencil Set 30 and once this was completely dry, I just accentuated the paste by running the Vintage Photo Crayon over the top and blending it out with the wet wipe.

I added Vintage Photo and Rusty Hinge Crayons around the edge of the tag and a final layer of Black Soot Crayon, all blended with my finger so that I don't have harsh lines of crayon before flicking a small amount of Black Soot Distress Paint across the surface. I attached the hole reinforcer at the top which I had painted with Steampunk Copper Alchemy Paint and highlighted using Rich Copper Alchemy Wax which gave it a beautiful sheen.
Heat dry the tag thoroughly and set aside.

Now to move onto the leaves and for these I used the Layered Leaf die to die cut two pieces of card, which I had covered with a double sided self adhesive tape sheet ~ apply the sticky side down onto the card and leave the backing in place until the card has been die cut.

Run the sticky-backed card through the machine to die cut two leaves.

Now for the fun part, applying the flakes and for this, I empty my pot of flakes into a larger contained with a removable sealed lid. Then, take one leaf and remove the backing sheet before dipping the die cut into the flakes, covering the leaf completely. At this stage, don't panic...it doesn't look great but I assure you, the magic is about to happen.

Place the leaf so that it's over the pot of flakes ~ this means that once you start removing the flakes, they will fall back into the pot and not escape everywhere ~ and then using a dry brush, (I use an old toothbrush) or a sponge, remove the flakes to reveal the detail.

Repeat with the second die cut leaf before embossing both using the co-ordinating Texture Fade in the die.

To accentuate the veins on the leaves, I just rubbed my archival ink pad over the top, to just pick up on the embossing.

With the remaining sticky back card, I then just die cut an extra few leaves using the Fall Foliage dies and then repeating the gilding process to cover the die cuts in the flakes.

Shape each of the leaves for a more realistic look and then arrange and attach each leaf over a bed of sisal fibres over the top of the tape area on your tag. I like a lot of dimension on my pieces and as you can see, I've arranged them so they don't lie flat against the tag, they do stand proud.
I then added some ephemera pieces and designer tape to complete the arrangement, tucking them underneath the leaves.

Moving on, I took one of the Christmas Paper Dolls and lightly coloured it with Distress Marker Pens before attaching her to my leaf arrangement, using a piece of wood from my own stash as a base for her to stand on and placed a wood slice behind her, so that it would be a substantial background base behind my little girl.
I then added some moss around her feet and some cut flowers from the Bouquet Findings.

To finish my tag, I added some Clippings Stickers and a Quote Chip to tell the story and some metal embellishments.

Finally, I tied some rope through the hole at the top of the tag.

So, that completes this tag with those wonderful quotes which I've used to tell the story of this little girl.

In My Dreams...

Hello friends and welcome to the brand new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week, our theme is all about Backgrounds and the team are also showcasing Dylusions products within their projects! If you'd like to join us for this challenge, we can't wait to see what you create and look forward to you playing along...

For my project, I chose to use my small Dylusions journal and Dylusions paints, combined with Tim Holtz Distress Paints to create a background for my journal pages which is all about dreams and was actually inspired by a recent chat on Facebook and one of the gorgeous Paper Dolls from Tim Holtz! I love to create stories around these images and these pages just had to be all about the hopes and dreams of this little ballerina. I hope you love what I've created and love all the details I've included in this project.

...it's time for a new challenge!
To begin with I prepped my pages with a layer of Antique Linen Distress Paint as I wanted a soft vintage feel for my background. I attached some torn pieces of the Symphony Tissue Tape and then started to add some colour by applying Victorian Velvet Distress Paint, keeping the pink in the centre of the pages and then added depth by using the Victorian Velvet and Pumice Stone Distress Crayons.

To create more layers on the background, I applied Hickory Smoke Distress Paint through the Nordic Layering Stencil, adding it randomly across my two pages. I heat dried the pages to set the paint before applying a layer of White Linen Dylusions paint over the top, which helped to blend the background, giving a soft diffused look.

Once I was happy, I then started to add my circles and used the Limor Circles Stamp from IndigoBlu. I stamped the the small and medium outline circles, stamping them across my pages to create the look of bubbles. I then painted the inside of the circles with gesso before adding Victorian Velvet Distress Paint over the top. Once the painted circles were dry, I added some shading with Victorian Velvet and Pumice Stone Distress Paints and added a small amount of White Linen Dylusions paint as highlights within the circles. I added some paint flicks of Black Soot and Gold Acrylic paint as a finishing touch.
To complete my background, I used an old credit card, dipped in Black Marble Dylusions paint and added some paint scratches around the edge of my pages.

Now for the fun part of adding my dream section...
I started by applying strips of Film Ribbon and lace to the centre of the right hand page ~ this will be my base for adding the layers. I then cut a circle of paper from the Memoranda paper stash and matted it onto a circle of gold metallic cardstock, followed by a layer of black card which had a small amount of Victorian Velvet paint applied around the edge.

I then attached my matted circle onto layers of cheesecloth, one coloured with Spun Sugar Distress Spray Stain and the other coloured with Antique Linen Distress Spray.

I also used the largest of the Stacked Stars die to die cut some gold Deco Sheets that I had attached to a thick piece of card and tucked the large die cut star behind the circle.

Using the gorgeous little ballerina Paper Doll which I coloured using Distress Marker Pens, I layered her over the top of some more cheesecloth, this time stained with Victorian Velvet Distress Spray..

I then wanted her to hold a little mirrored star, altered with Mushroom Alcohol ink, so attached a small piece of twine, so that it appeared to be coming from her hand and tied a further piece of twine into a bow and attached this to her hand before adding the star at the end of the twine.
I placed some more mirrored stars around her, tucking them into the cheesecloth and I also added some remnant rubs to the background.

Because these pages were all about dreams and stars, I wanted a trail of stars to be following her, so I used the Crescent Moon and Stars die to die cut some smaller stars from the card covered with the gold Deco Sheet and placed these in a swathe across the pages.
I also added some gold sequins in between for a bit of sparkle.
Finally, I added my wording and for this I found the perfect quotes in the Clippings Stickers and attached these onto the left and right hand pages, together with an arrow from the Gilded Accents Remnants set.

...and that completes this week's project ~ a story of a little girl, dreaming of stars that glitter!

Red, White and Blue...

Happy 4th of July everyone and welcome to a brand new challenge over on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog where this week the design team are showcasing IndigoBlu stamps with our RED, WHITE AND/OR BLUE challenge theme!

We can't wait to see what you create using either one or all of the colours and hope you'll play along with us in this fun challenge...

For my project, I decided to use all the colours and create a celebration panel for Independence Day and used IndigoBlu stamps to create the background for my mixed media collage.

To begin with I took a piece of white canvas paper and cut this to measure 20 x 18cm. I then started to create the background by stamping the various sized circles from the Limor Circles stamp set, and stamping them across the centre of the page using Jet Black Archival Ink. Once I was happy with the positioning, I then started to colour them and for this I used Snowflake PaperArtsy Chalk Paint for the white areas, Festive Berries and Fired Brick Distress Paint for the red circles and finally, Chipped Sapphire Distress Paint for the blue.

Once the paint was dry, I then added some white gesso to highlight the circles before adding Black Soot to create some shadow. To complete the circles, I used the smallest script stamp from the set and stamped onto the small white circles.
For the next stage of the background I wanted to create a worn, vintage look to the paper and for this I applied a layer of Antique Linen paint, using a paint brush to carefully blend and apply it around the circles and then applied Frayed Burlap and Ground Espresso which I dry brushed over the top.

I flicked some Chipped Sapphire Distress Paint and Snowflake Chalk Paint over the background before using Walnut Stain and Black Soot Distress Crayons around the edge, blending them with my finger to give a soft, smudged look.

Matt the finished background onto a piece of silver metallic kraft core card, followed by a layer of paper from the Correspondence paper stash and finally a piece of red Core'Dinations card.
Now that I have my background, it's time to create that centrepiece...
...and to do this I started with the stars. I attached a piece of metal foil tape over the top of some thick card and then placed the card in the Tiny Stars Texture Fade to emboss it.

I then used the Stacked Stars die to die cut the embossed metal covered card stock.
Ink the embossed stars with a combination of Gold Metallic Mixative and Hazelnut Alcohol Ink before applying a Black Soot and Vintage Photo Distress Crayons over the top, rubbing the crayon into the recessed areas to create the look of rust.

Randomly tear a piece of cardboard from the Textured Surfaces pack, which as you can just about see in the photo below, I used as a base to build up my layers and then can be easily transferred to your background to complete it.
Attach the stars to the corrugated card, using foam pads to create dimension.
Spritz some cheesecloth with Weathered Wood Distress Spray Stain and attach the cloth to the corrugated stars, placing it underneath and around the stars.
Take an Ephemera piece and screw it up before flattening it out and inking over the top and around the edges. Place the piece over the top of your stars and cheesecloth.
I then took the gorgeous photo from the Occasions Found Relatives pack and fussy cut around the image before applying a wash of colour onto the flag using Festive Berries and Chipped Sapphire Distress Marker Pens. Attach the image over the top of the corrugated card arrangement.

I then attached my centrepiece onto the background and added Occasions Small Talk Sticker, 'Red White & Blue' and a number 4 from the Letterpress set. which I painted with Antique Linen Distress Paint.
As a finishing touch, I added some Remnant Rubs...
...and some Mirrored Stars!
To frame and complete the entire panel, I used a ruler which I dipped into gesso and then just added the straight lines of paint around to each corner.
I really hope you've enjoyed the process of how this piece was put together...it was so much fun to work on and I was so happy with the finished project! I always say it but it's my new favourite!

We Shall Not Forget...

"At the going down of the sun, we will remember them" ~ Laurence Binyon
Today, as we look towards the weekend and honouring our heroes, I wanted to share a couple of cards that I made for October edition of Making Cards Magazine.

I created this set of two cards for Remembrance Day using the IndigoBlu Poppycock stamps together with various Tim Holtz, Sizzix and Ranger Ink products and because I know there are quite a few of my followers and friends that might not be able to see an issue of the magazine, then I thought now was the perfect time to share these with you all and show all the detail of each card! As always, I hope you love them...

For the first card, I designed a circular card and used two poppies and the leaves from the stamp set. All the poppy images are stamped in black and embossed with clear powder before being coloured with a Barn Door Distress Marker Pen and highlighted with an orange pencil.
As you can see on the background, I have used various Distress products and Tissue Tape. I also used  die cut words from the Sizzix Friends Thinlits die set by Tim Holtz

The second card uses just one of the poppies and this time I mounted it onto a black card blank which I think looks so striking in appearance!

Thank you for popping by today and I'll see you again soon!
Have a safe weekend...love Emma x
