Colour The World...

Hello everyone...

Hope you all had a lovely weekend and now, you're ready for the week ahead. As always on a Monday, we have a brand new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge and this week, our theme is all about Art Journaling and we would love for you to join us and play along.

For my project, I chose to create a double paged layout with the theme of "Colour The World", with the British spelling of the word 'colour" and amongst many Tim Holtz products, I wanted to use one of my favourite pieces from the 2023 idea-ology release, the gorgeous Palette Collage paper which you can see on the background.

So, here we go, let's start journaling....

For this particular make, I used my Dylusions Journal,  and the pages insides measure 8" x 5'.

TO BEGIN...

I started by covering the page on the right hand side using the Palette Collage paper.
The depth of the paper won't cover the page completely, so I used two panels that I pieced together to cover the entire page and adhered them into the book with Matte Collage Medium, applying a coat over the top to seal the paper and adding some machine stitching around the edges of the page. I then ran the Walnut Stain Distress Crayon around the edges, blending it with my fingertip and dragging the colour towards the centre of the page.
Even though my intention was to leave white space on the left hand side, I also wanted for the pages to come together as one. So bring the two pages of my layout together and create continuity, I added strips of Design Tape, placing the first strip of Tape Trim down the join of the journal.
I then added torn strips of Salvaged Design Tape on the opposite page on the left, together with some torn pieces of the Palette and Photographic Collage Papers and applied a coat of Collage Medium over the top.

Using a palette knife, I added lines of white gesso over the surface of the taped area, followed by scribbling some Walnut Stain Distress Crayon over the top which helps to blend away the harsh edges of the collage paper and tape.

Finally, I wrapped some twine around the page, top to bottom and securing it with tiny staples.
To add more layers and interest to this page, I stamped the postmark from the Field Notes Stamp Set in Black Soot Archival Ink and then added some flicks of Black Soot Distress Paint across the surface.
Finally, I added my quote, which will tell the story ~ Colour The World and I used the Label Alphanumeric Thinlits Dies to cut each letter from gold metallic kraft card backed with double sided adhesive and placed to the left of the taped section.

BACK TO THE MAIN PAGE

I'm now ready to add those layers to the main page and began with the globe, taken from the Memoirs Ephemera pack, and adhering it into position.
I then added a Ruler Ephemera piece, together with the rose banner again taken from the Memoirs Ephemera pack, and adhered these just beneath the globe.
Taking a soft graphite pencil, and once the medium was dry, I ran this around the outsides of each of the pieces to define the edges.

PAPER DOLL

I chose a paper doll from the pack, (and don't forget you don't have to use this one because in these packs, there are plenty to choose from that will speak to you), and I colour tinted the paper doll with Distress Crayons and a water brush.

Colours used:
Tea Dye and Aged Mahogany for the skin tones
Stormy Sky and Tumbled Glass for the dress
Peeled Paint for the hat
Picked Raspberry for the shoes
LEAVES AND GOLD MEDIA MARKS

Using the Sizzix Media Marks Thinlits Die Set, I began by die cutting a few of the squiggly shape from Mixed Media Heavystock card.

I then wanted to create an enamelled effect to each die cut and for this I applied an Embossing Dabber over the surface and then sprinkled Gold Embossing Powder over the top. Tap away the excess and heat emboss before repeating the process again to create the molten look to each piece.

The leaves that I used are from the Organic Layers pack. These come with a white outline, which you can trim away if you choose but for this particular make, I wanted to keep that white outline because I wouldn't be adding dimension or shape to the images, they would just be flat on the journal page.

I attached the leaves around the globe, tucking some of the Media Mark squiggles into the arrangement, which I cut into smaller sections.
After sitting the little girl in the centre of the arrangement, I once again added shading around each of the Organic Layers pieces.
To complete the arrangement, I added a tiny butterfly from the Snippets Ephemera pack and placed him to the left of the little girl.
COMPLETING THE JOURNAL LAYOUT...

Finally, I added my final ephemera piece, "For Skill and Amusement Only", again from the Memoirs pack and adhered this into position at the top of the page before I ran a black fine line pen to add doodles around the outside of the piece.

So that's my art journal layout complete and I hope you love what I've made and will be inspired to colour your world with these ideas!

2: Happy Together...

Hello friends and happy Monday...

I can't quite believe that we're already in March!! Where did January and February go?!? It's crazy how time flies in lockdown but at least there has been some light at the end of this long road and this week, I'll be having my Covid vaccination.

But before then, it's time for the brand new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge and this week our theme is Art Journaling! The DT are showcasing Dyan Reaveley products within their projects, which is something you can do but it's not essential ~ you can join in whatever product you choose to use!

For my project, I used Dyan's Small Creative Journal to create a collaged, layered vintage journal layout using Tim Holtz ephemera. I love to create this style of art journaling, it's also a fabulous way of using up my offcuts and scraps of paper that sit in a box for "one of those days".  I also chose to use a photo from the Tim Holtz Found Relative photo set, but there's no reason as to why you can't use a precious photo from your own collection and create a page that is all about family!

So, let's get started and here's how I created my journal layout..

I started my layout by using a few of my scraps and offcuts of paper from the Abandoned Paper Stash and adhered these down the centre of the double pages, together with some strips of Tim's Remant Design Tape using Matte Collage Medium, which I also used to seal the papers. I then applied some Crackle Paste, around the paper edges and left this to do it's thing whilst I colour tinted my photo.

The photo that I used is from Tim's Found Relatives set and I just adore this photo of mother and child, it's so beautiful. To add colour to the image, I applied a coat of clear gesso to prime the surface and then used a damp fine detail water brush and Distress Crayons and basically watercolored the photo.

After adding some machine stitching around the edges, it was time to go back to my journal, where the crackle paste was now dry and crackly, and complete the background.

I used the Pumice Stone and Walnut Stain Distress Crayons to add a touch of vintage to the background and to accentuate the crackles that the paste has given. To blend the crayons and get rid of any harsh lines, I used a water brush and a semi dry baby wipe, and just applied this over the surface.

I completed the background by flicking a small amount of watered down Black Soot Distress Paint across the pages and allowed for everything to dry thoroughly and I also added some machine stitching. It wasn't the easiest of things to do...the book and my machine had a few hissy fits but I got there in the end and obtained the look I wanted.

Moving on, I gathered my supplies and used flowers, labels and a butterfly in flight, all taken from the Field Notes Ephemera and Snippets Ephemera sets. Once I had the ones I wanted to use, I arranged these, together with my photo onto my pages, adhering them directly onto the background using Matte Collage Medium.

I completed the arrangement with a tiny butterfly in flight, that I added to the top right hand corner of the photo and a vial label that I layered, buy placing it just underneath the photo.

I then added a small button, with pink thread stitched through the holes and a postmark that comes from the Specimen Remnant Rubs pack.

For the finishing touches to this layout, I added the large number 2 which is from the Urban Layers pack and adhered this to the left hand page. I then used one of the new products from Tim's idea-ology range, Metallic Stickers and I took the "Happy Together" sticker and placed this underneath my large number.

Finally, I added a Stitched Scrap in the top left hand corner, complete with a mini pin...

...and that is my journal layout complete and I hope you've enjoyed the walk through the process of how it was created.

As always, if you've been inspired by anything that you see here on my blog, please just tag me on my social media or leave a message so I can pop by to take a look ~ I always love to see your work!

In My Dreams...

Hello friends and welcome to the brand new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week, our theme is all about Backgrounds and the team are also showcasing Dylusions products within their projects! If you'd like to join us for this challenge, we can't wait to see what you create and look forward to you playing along...

For my project, I chose to use my small Dylusions journal and Dylusions paints, combined with Tim Holtz Distress Paints to create a background for my journal pages which is all about dreams and was actually inspired by a recent chat on Facebook and one of the gorgeous Paper Dolls from Tim Holtz! I love to create stories around these images and these pages just had to be all about the hopes and dreams of this little ballerina. I hope you love what I've created and love all the details I've included in this project.

...it's time for a new challenge!
To begin with I prepped my pages with a layer of Antique Linen Distress Paint as I wanted a soft vintage feel for my background. I attached some torn pieces of the Symphony Tissue Tape and then started to add some colour by applying Victorian Velvet Distress Paint, keeping the pink in the centre of the pages and then added depth by using the Victorian Velvet and Pumice Stone Distress Crayons.

To create more layers on the background, I applied Hickory Smoke Distress Paint through the Nordic Layering Stencil, adding it randomly across my two pages. I heat dried the pages to set the paint before applying a layer of White Linen Dylusions paint over the top, which helped to blend the background, giving a soft diffused look.

Once I was happy, I then started to add my circles and used the Limor Circles Stamp from IndigoBlu. I stamped the the small and medium outline circles, stamping them across my pages to create the look of bubbles. I then painted the inside of the circles with gesso before adding Victorian Velvet Distress Paint over the top. Once the painted circles were dry, I added some shading with Victorian Velvet and Pumice Stone Distress Paints and added a small amount of White Linen Dylusions paint as highlights within the circles. I added some paint flicks of Black Soot and Gold Acrylic paint as a finishing touch.
To complete my background, I used an old credit card, dipped in Black Marble Dylusions paint and added some paint scratches around the edge of my pages.

Now for the fun part of adding my dream section...
I started by applying strips of Film Ribbon and lace to the centre of the right hand page ~ this will be my base for adding the layers. I then cut a circle of paper from the Memoranda paper stash and matted it onto a circle of gold metallic cardstock, followed by a layer of black card which had a small amount of Victorian Velvet paint applied around the edge.

I then attached my matted circle onto layers of cheesecloth, one coloured with Spun Sugar Distress Spray Stain and the other coloured with Antique Linen Distress Spray.

I also used the largest of the Stacked Stars die to die cut some gold Deco Sheets that I had attached to a thick piece of card and tucked the large die cut star behind the circle.

Using the gorgeous little ballerina Paper Doll which I coloured using Distress Marker Pens, I layered her over the top of some more cheesecloth, this time stained with Victorian Velvet Distress Spray..

I then wanted her to hold a little mirrored star, altered with Mushroom Alcohol ink, so attached a small piece of twine, so that it appeared to be coming from her hand and tied a further piece of twine into a bow and attached this to her hand before adding the star at the end of the twine.
I placed some more mirrored stars around her, tucking them into the cheesecloth and I also added some remnant rubs to the background.

Because these pages were all about dreams and stars, I wanted a trail of stars to be following her, so I used the Crescent Moon and Stars die to die cut some smaller stars from the card covered with the gold Deco Sheet and placed these in a swathe across the pages.
I also added some gold sequins in between for a bit of sparkle.
Finally, I added my wording and for this I found the perfect quotes in the Clippings Stickers and attached these onto the left and right hand pages, together with an arrow from the Gilded Accents Remnants set.

...and that completes this week's project ~ a story of a little girl, dreaming of stars that glitter!
