Watching and Waiting...

Hello friends and welcome to a brand new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week our theme is all about MONOCHROME ~ using one dominant colour throughout your projects and we hope you'll join us because the team can't wait to see what you create for this challenge!

For my project, I chose to create just one more Halloween piece and made a home decor panel using  black and ivory (just a slight twist on the traditional black and white) but I did add just a pop of red into the mix!

So, it's time for a brand new challenge and this is how I created my project full of layers and dimension...

To begin with I cut a panel of canvas paper and added a wash of Antique Linen and Picket Fence Distress Paints over the top. I heat dried the surface and then started adding some layers and depth to the background and began by applying randomly torn strips of tissue tape directly over the top of the painted surface.

For the next layer, I used the splat stamp from the Ravens stamp set and stamped onto the background in Jet Black Archival Ink. I always give my ink a blast of heat so that I don't smudge it before then adding the next layers, the Halloween Ephemera pieces, (sticking to the black and white pieces but adding that hint of red), together with cut pieces of paper from the Halloween Paper Stash. I arranged the pieces over the top of my tissue tape layer, adhering them with Matte Collage Medium and creating the effect of a cross shape on my background ~ you can see this underneath the circular die cuts in the photo below.
I wanted to create some texture onto the edges of the paper, so for this I dabbed the Embossing Dabber around the outside and then sprinkled over some Vintage Photo Distress Embossing Powder. Heat emboss the powder and then rub gently over the surface to release the crystals, leaving the gorgeous effect that the powder creates. Do not put any of the released crystals back into the pot, discard these in the bin!

To complete the background I added a few gold and black paint splatters using a paintbrush which I dipped into the paint.

Once all the pieces are in place, I moved onto the next stage and cut my circular panels from some card, using the largest two sizes of the Stitched Circles dies.

Taking the larger circle, I painted it with black Soot Distress Paint and once it was dry, I applied some Brushed Iron Alchemy Wax over the top of the paint. Then, taking the smaller circle, I painted this with the same colours of paint that I used on my background. Layer the circles over the top of one another, using foam pads for dimension and attach them onto the centre of the layered background.
Taking a piece of woodgrain card, colour the surface with Black Soot Distress Paint. Once the card is completely dry, I cut the scarecrow from the black card. I then dry brushed the edges of the die cut image with a little Brushed Pewter Distress Paint. For his scarf, I used some cheesecloth that I dyed with Pumice Stone and Antique Linen Distress Ink. I then tied the cloth around the neck of the die cut and secured it with a knot. To attach the scarecrow, I used and adhered it to the centre of my circular panels, placing it over a bed of sisal fibres.
I added the pumpkin from the Halloween Ephemera set and tucked it into the base of the scarecrow die cut and placed more cheesecloth just below the base of the scarecrow,
I then used some of the Halloween Clippings Stickers and attached these with a star adornment before I matted and layered my completed panel onto black card, followed by a layer of corrugated card, painted with Black Soot Distress Paint. I also added a small amount of the Alchemy Wax to accentuate the corrugation on the card.
As the finishing touch, I attached an Index Clip and hung a spider from a piece of silver metallic thread and added the Remnant Rub number.
