You're The One...

Hello friends

Hope you all had a great weekend and ready for a brand new week and a brand new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week the theme is YOUNG AT HEART and of course, is all about Valentine's Day and as an added bonus, if you love Simon Says Stamp products, then the team are also showcasing a selection of these within their projects!

I decided to create a Valentine's Day card but I didn't go down the traditional route of red and went with soft vintage tones of neutrals, pink, gold and duck egg blue.

It's time for a brand new challenge...

...and this is how I created my card!

To begin with I started with my background and cut a piece of mixed media card to roughly the same size as the background stamp that I was using.

I then added a layer of Antique Linen Distress Paint over the surface of the card, heat dried the paint before layering further Distress Paints ~ Hickory Smoke, Pumice Stone and Frayed Burlap to create my background. Heat dry the painted surface thoroughly!

Then, using an old expired credit card, I scraped some gesso over the top of the layers and again gave it a blast of heat to dry it.

To add that little extra hint of colour, I added a touch of Cracked Pistachio Distress Crayon to my background and just blended with my fingertips.

Ink up the Love Is Background Stamp using Versamark Ink or clear embossing ink and then sprinkle some gold embossing powder over the top. Tap away the excess powder and heat emboss until molten and shiny.
Flick some gesso splats across the embossed surface before matting and layering the background onto  a piece of gold metallic card, followed by a layer of pink kraft stock card. I mounted the matted layers onto a white card blank, inked around the edges with Antique Linen Distress Ink.

Now for my layers and to begin with I used the Tim Holtz Ornate Frame die to die cut a piece of chipboard. Prime the chipboard with a layer of gesso before adding some Grit Paste to the surface, leaving the paste slightly stippled to create some gorgeous texture.

Once the paste is dry, add some Gold Rush Alchemy Paint over the top and again leave to dry.

Attach the frame onto your background, layering it with pieces of torn corrugated card, dry brushed with gesso. Cut a piece of linen from the Textile Surfaces pack and add small amounts of gesso and Victorian Velvet Distress Paint onto the surface. Ink the Tim Holtz "You're The One" quote with Jet Black Archival Ink and stamp directly onto the linen.
Attach the message over the top of the layers. At this stage I attached a Hinge Clip, altered with some Treasure Gold Gilding Wax and then added a loop pin and a Heart Charm and just clipped onto the side of the layered section.
For the handmade paper rose, I used Tim's Tattered Florals die and die cut lightweight card, coloured with Victorian Velvet Distress Stain. I then created my dimensional bloom, inking the edges of each layer and shaping the petals to create a more realistic look.
Attach the rose to the card, together with a shabby bow made from crinkle ribbon and coloured with Tumbled Glass and Antique Linen Distress Stain.
Finally, I added some small hearts to my background! I actually had these teeny little hearts on my desk from a previous project ~ they are the negative sections from the SSS Stacked Heart Die and I just thought they were the perfect finishing touch to the card and placed them around the frame area.
To complete the card, I added some Memory Hardware metallic beads to each corner.
So, I hope you enjoyed how I created this card and it's inspired you with a few ideas for Valentine's Day!
