Step Back In Time...

Hello friends and welcome to a brand new week over on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. This week, our theme is called Time Out and all we want you to do is create something that is time related ~ there are so many ways to interpret this challenge, you might want to use a clock or watch or you might want to create a layout showing a day when you took some time out or if you're like me, you may want to step back in time and create a piece that reminds you of days gone by.

So when I was thinking of idea's for this challenge, I kinda knew where I wanted to go with it ~ I wanted to create something circular, and I wanted to step back in time but it was only when I started creating it that I suddenly had that light bulb moment and thought ~ 'how cool would it be to replicate a clock face" and with that in mind, it all fell into place and this project came to life. Also, I always like to give my characters names and today, I'd like you to meet two friends ~ Clarice and Martha, lol!
So, let's get started because it's time for the new challenge!

To begin with I took my 8" circular panel ~ I actually had this mdf panel in my stash but you can easily recreate the shape by cutting a circle of paper and mounting it onto chipboard. I then prepped the surface with gesso and heat dried it before adding my paint layers.

I started with a layer of Antique Linen, followed by some Pumice Stone Distress Paint. I usually blend the colours with my fingers. Once the paint was dry, I then added random pieces of torn tissue tape directly onto the background ~ this will give me a base for my main focal point.

To add some more layers and depth, I then used a combination of Pumice Stone, Chipped Sapphire, Crushed Olive and Black Soot Distress Crayons over the top of the taped area, blending out the colours with my fingertips.
Next, I added scrapings of gesso, set it with a heat tool and then used my trusty script stamp from the Entomology set, stamping randomly over the background to add some more layers. Finally, I flicked Black Soot Distress Paint and gold paint across the surface.

For the next stage, I needed to make the numbers and used the Cutout Script die to die cut the numbers 1-12 from a piece of chipboard that I had pre-gessoed. Taking each of the numbers, I then heat embossed them to create an enamelled effect, applying a layer of gold embossing powder over the top of clear embossing ink and then inking again before adding a sprinkling of Gunmetal.
Attach the numbers around the outside of the circular panel using Matte Collage Medium and then using a Black Soot Distress Marker Pen, add some shadowing around the numbers, blending the colour out with a semi dry baby wipe.
At this stage, I also added some shading around the edge using a combination of Ground Espresso and Black Soot Distress Crayons.
Moving onto the central section, I began by attaching some Botanical Layers Ephemera directly onto the background, using Collage Medium. I dried the medium before outlining the ephemera pieces with the Black Soot Distress Crayon.
Using a twig from my garden, I attached the twig over a bed of sisal fibres and placed this onto the background. I then colour tinted a Paper Doll image with Distress Marker Pens, and attached it to appear as if the ladies are sitting on the branch.

I've also added foam pads to the back of the ladies to create stability to the figures but carefully hidden this out of view but I hope you can see the depth of this section in the photo below.
To complete the scene, I attached two butterflies from the ephemera set and added a small bunch of Bouquet Findings, coloured with Scattered Straw Distress Spray Stain and placed these underneath Martha's arm, so she is leaning on them.
Finally, I added some Melange Pebbles around the image, painted with Finnabair's Dragon's Eye Sparks Paint and then placed some Mini Hardware pieces amongst the numbers.
As the finishing touch I attached a Clippings Sticker ~ A record of the past and placed this directly onto the image.
I really hope you've loved this project and loved my interpretation of the this week's theme ~ it was so much fun to create and I've loved sharing the creative process with you!

I respect you so much as an artist even though our styles are different. It's always inspiring for me to see someone who can accomplish styles that would be so hard for me to do. The world always needs more lovely classiness and you bring that to the table time and time again!
