One Of A Kind...

Hello friends and welcome to a brand new challenge over on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. This week the Design Team are showcasing Tim Holtz products and combining them with our theme ~ MAKE A RAINBOW. This theme can be interpreted in so many ways...you could choose to actually paint a rainbow or maybe like I did, choose to use rainbow colours within your project but whatever you choose, we can't wait to see what you create!

I decided to create an explosion of rainbow colours on my background and then add some more rainbow colours into the wings of the gorgeous dragonfly with majestic wings, full of shimmer and iridescent shine!

 

...it's time for a new challenge!

To begin with I cut a piece of canvas paper and applied a layer of Picket Fence Distress Paint over the surface. As I've mentioned before, I like to prime the surface with this paint when I use Distress Crayons as I find they blend so much easier.

I then started to add colour and began by brushing some Cracked Pistachio and Evergreen Bough over the top of the painted surface, blending the colours together but also leaving white space so that I can add the colours of crayons. Once I was happy, I then started to add Mustard Seed, Picked Raspberry, Tumbled Glass, Twisted Citron and a touch of Spiced Marmalade into the mix, blending the colours together with a semi dry baby wipe and my finger.

To add a little more depth to the mix, I also added strokes of Black Soot Distress Crayon...not too much, less is more. To complete the background, I used a palette knife to scrape some gesso over the top and then gave it a blast of heat to dry the paints and crayons thoroughly.

Now for some texture and for this, I began with some torn strips of tissue tape, which I placed in a  grid onto the background. I then added a layer of gold die cut metallic card, die cut using the Mixed Media dies before applying Grit Paste through the Linen Layering Stencil. When the paste is dry, I added some Distress Paint in Picked Raspberry and Tumbled Glass over the top and once again gave a blast of heat.

After adding a few splits of Picked Raspberry and Black Soot, I applied my final layer of colour by mixing Fossilised Amber Oxide Ink with some Grit Paste and applying it through the Speckles Layering Stencil.

I doodled a border around the edge and then matted the background onto black card, followed by gold metallic card and a final layer of chipboard, painted with Black Soot Distress Paint.

To complete my background, I added a border strip of torn corrugated card which I placed across the middle.

Moving onto that gorgeous dragonfly, I began by die cutting and embossing my image from a piece of Mixed Media card. I then added a layer of Peacock Feathers onto the wings and Black Soot onto the body.

For the iridescent shine, I added some Raven Black Sparks paint to the body and Fairy Wings and Mermaid Sparkle paint to the wings. I then dried the die cut image thoroughly before adding a hint of more colour by using Picked Raspberry and Wilted Violet Distress Crayons. 

Splatter the wings with a brush loaded with gesso and then for that extra shimmery touch, I applied the Collage Glue pen onto the embossed veins and added Blue Transfer Foil over the top. For the eyes, I added drops of Duck Egg Nuvo Crystal Drops.

I attached the dragonfly onto a layer of cheesecloth, dyed with Picked Raspberry Distress Spray Stain, some sisal fibres and a loop of wire which I placed over the top of two twigs from the garden.

To complete my canvas, I added some Nailhead Findings to either side of the border, which I arranged in a cluster of 28 Lilac Lane sequins and finished with the One Of A Kind quote chip.
