We Can See Clearly...

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week, our theme is...WE CAN SEE CLEARLY and it's all about using acetate or vellum! Whatever you choose to use, we can't wait to see how you incorporate these surfaces into your creations and hope that you'll have fun playing along with this brand new challenge!

To be honest, I don't use acetate or vellum very much in my work and when I have in the past, I'll either use if for flowers, wings of butterflies or dragonflies or maybe as a window but this week, I thought it would be really fun to try something different and use it as a base for my project. So, with this in mind, I decided to die cut a tag from a piece of acetate and I was so pleased with the finished piece and hope you love it too...

To begin with I die cut a tag from a piece of acetate. I had some really thick acetate in my stash but you could also use old packaging which would work just as well!

I then started to build some layers onto my surface and began by painting on some gesso, applying it in a random fashion and not being too controlled about it! Once this was dry, I then used Glue N' Seal to attach a torn piece of tissue wrap over the top of the gesso!
When using acetate, you will need a little patience as each layer dries because if you use a heat tool, you could melt or bend the acetate which isn't a great look!

Once my layers were thoroughly dry, I then used the Mustard Seed Distress Crayon to add a small amount of colour over the top of the tissue wrap, blending it with my fingertip before then adding some texture paste through the Zig Zag Layering Stencil, again being patient to let it dry thoroughly.
Lightly spritz the tag with some Gold Foil Color Bloom spray and again, allow to dry. Once this is done, I then added a smear of 3D gel over the top and sprinkled the wet medium with glass glitter and micro beads, tapping away the excess!
To complete the tag and to give it a vintage worn look, I alcohol inked around the edges before adding a light flick of Black Soot Distress Paint across the surface.
Setting the tag aside to dry, I then moved onto my embellishments and for this, I die cut some Tiny Tattered Florals from mixed media card, spritzed the spikey flower die cuts with Peacock Feathers and the small roses with Gold Foil Color Bloom Spray Mist. Heat dry the die cuts before assembling each flower ~ I also added stamens into the centres of the larger spikey flowers. Once the flowers are made, I then spritzed them with Biscotti Perfect Pearls for some extra shimmer.
For the photograph, I used one of the PhotoBooth images, inked around the edge and then applied a Fragment Finding over the top, using Glossy Accents to attach it into place. When applying the Fragment Finding onto the photo, I usually move the fragment around whilst pressing down, so that it dispels all the air bubbles. I then lightly scratched the surface of the fragment piece before inking the edge with Mushroom and Gold Mixative Alcohol Ink and adding a Remnant Rub showing the year to the top left hand corner.
Attach the photo, together with the flowers, floristry fibres and some laurel leaf foliage, punched from gold Metallic Kraft Core card stock and inked with Mushroom and Gold Mixative alcohol ink. I also added a small gold pearl to my background.
Dye a piece of Crinkle Ribbon with Antique Linen Distress Spray Stain and then tie into a scruffy bow, adding a vintage button to the centre.
As the finishing touch, I used a Small Talk sticker and placed it in the bottom left of the tag.

The Sweet Life...

Hello everyone and welcome to the brand new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge where this week our theme is ~ Food & Drink! Whether you celebrate your love for food and drink or whether you choose to make something for Easter, whatever you decide, we can't wait to see what you create and hope you'll play along with our challenge!

For my project, I wanted to create some fun little Easter gifts ~ mini mason jars, filled with chocolate Easter eggs and decorated with the help of some of my crazy feathered friends, dressed as Easter Bunnies!
I also made a matching Easter card, that can be given alongside the gift!

As my starting point I used some of Tim Holtz's Mini Mason jars, together with a larger jar. These tiny jars are perfect for gifts but because I was adding food products to the jars, I decided to keep them as they were and not use paints or inks. But of course, they did need decorating and I chose to create small tags in fresh spring colours and include the stars of the show...the dressed up crazy birds!
I began by cutting two small tag shapes from kraft card, each one approx 8 x 5cm. I then inked up the Dots stamp with clear embossing powder and stamped directly onto the tag. Sprinkle the ink with white embossing powder and heat emboss. At this stage, I also cut a panel of kraft card and using the Dot Stamp, I stamped and white embossed the card, which I will use later for my card and for my tag messages.

I inked around the edge of the tag with Walnut Stain Distress Ink and then added a bow, made from crinkle ribbon dyed with Tumbled Glass for the first tag and Shaded Lilac for the second tag. Attach the bow using a second piece of ribbon attached around the rim of the lid.
For the little birdies on the tags, I used the Mini Bird Crazy set, which is the perfect size for these and stamped them onto watercolour card before watercoloring each bird with Distress Marker Pens and then die cutting with the corresponding dies. Of course, if you don't have the die, these are quite easy to cut out but using the die just makes things that little bit quicker! Layer all your bird pieces up and then using the bunny ears from the Crazy Things stamp set...stamp, colour and die cut before adding to each of the birds!

When creating the gorgeous little flowers, I used pinks, lilacs, blues and yellows from the Core'Dinations Paper Pad and die cut each of my flowers using the Tiny Tattered Florals die. I then assembled all 17 of my flowers and once the flowers are all made, I then laid them out on a craft sheet and spritzed them with various colours of Distress Stain ~ I used Picked Raspberry, Mustard Seed and Spiced Marmalade. Carefully heat dry the flowers and once thoroughly dry, dip a paint brush into gesso and gently dab the tips of each flower. Heat dry once more and if you need more gesso, just add some more, gently building up the colour!
I stamped the "Happy Easter" message in Jet Black Archival Ink onto some more of the white embossed dot kraft card, cut the card into little banner shapes and attached these to my tags, together with a bird and a couple of the tiny florals.
On the purple bow, I also added a small flower to the centre of the bow.
To complete the jars, I added a circle of paper from the Wallflower paper Stash, a wooden Kaisercraft embellishment which I altered with a co-ordinating colour of Distress Paints and a touch of Treasure Gold Gilding Wax and as a finishing touch, attached a Curio Knob.
Once I started these little gifts, there was no stopping me and I went on to create a larger jar, which features one of the bigger, regular crazy birds. I attached the die cut bird to the top of the lid, together with a crinkle ribbon dyed bow, floristry fibres, a flower and an enamelled tag with the words, "Sweet Life"...taken from the Words Remnant Rubs set.

...and what could be nicer than using one of the larger Bird Crazy stamps to create a matching card! For this, I used my favourite bird and added him onto the dotted background and some corrugated card matts. I attached more of the tiny tattered florals for a wonderful touch of Spring and added an Easter message and some twine to complete it!
I love the fact that Tim has created the smaller birds to be used on tags, etc and that they will compliment the larger birds which can be used on cards...it just creates such a wonderful set and gift, which I hope you love, as much as I loved creating it!

Shining Star...

Hello everyone and welcome to another brand new challenge over at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog where this week our theme is all about LUCKY STARS! Whether you're inspired by St Patrick's Day, and want to include the luck of the Irish in your project or maybe you have a lucky star that you want to feature, then we can't wait to see what you create and look forward to you playing along with us!

For my project, I was inspired by this beautiful image of the little girl in Tim Holtz's Found Relatives vintage photo pack and I just knew that she would be my little star of this piece and created a burlap panel where I sat her on a glittery moon, surrounded by stars but holding one very special lucky star! I was so happy with this panel and I think it's one of my favourite makes to date...I'm over the moon (pardon the pun) with how it turned out!

So, without further hesitation....
...and this is how I created my project!

To begin with I took the 7 x 5 burlap panel and added some gesso around the edges. Once the gesso was dry, I then added some sparkle with a mixture of 3D gel, micro beads and glass glitter. I usually mix these together on my craft sheet and then apply them to the edge of my panel using a palette knife. If you think you need more sparkle, then just sprinkle a little more over the top and tap away the excess.
To create the background for my scene, I cut a panel of watercolour card, slightly smaller in size than the burlap panel and spritzed it with water, don't oversaturate the card but make it really damp. Once this is done, I then applied small amounts of Black Soot, Chipped Sapphire, Faded Jeans and Broken China Distress Stain to the background, using a brush and just swiping the colour across the card to create an ombre effect.

Heat dry the stained card and then distress the edges before inking using Black Soot and Hickory Smoke Distress Ink.

Give a spritz of Brushed Pewter Distress Stain onto the background, heat dry again and then matt onto silver metallic kraft core cardstock.
Now to create my little scene and for this I started by die cutting the moon and the stars from really good quality thick white card. You can also use chipboard for this but you will need to gesso the pieces before adding paint or mediums.

I then painted my moon with Brushed Pewter Distress Paint, dried it off before applying a layer of Glossy Accents. Sprinkle Pumice Stone Distress Glitter over the top and tap away the excess before leaving to dry before inking the edge with Black Soot Distress Ink.
For the stars, I did exactly the same as the moon but used Antique Linen Distress Paint and Rock Candy Distress Glitter. I inked around the edge with Tea Dye Distress Ink.

Attach the die cut pieces to your panel using foam pads and I also added some die cut clouds, cut from the gold Deco Sheets.
Now for the beautiful image and this is fussy cut from one of the photos and attached with foam pads, to appear as she is sitting on the moon.

I added an alcohol inked star which she's holding in her hands and popped some sequins around the background.
For the bow, I used crinkle ribbon which is dyed with Brushed Pewter Distress Stain. I popped a vintage mother of pearl button in the centre, added a piece of cheesecloth for texture and attached a wishbone to the arrangement.
Finally, I added my Letterpress blocks to spell out the word Lucky. The letterpress blocks are painted with Picket Fence Distress Paint and have a layer of Rock Candy Distress Glitter over the top for some extra shimmer. I attached the blocks over the top of some metallic fibres using Glossy Accents to hold them securely in place.
...and that completes my panel! I just wish you could see the shimmer and sparkle that this has in real life but the camera just can't pick that up but it really does shine and I hope you love my project and enjoyed the creative process!
