Finder's Keepers...

Hi everyone and welcome to a brand new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week, our theme is PET'S CORNER and we would love it if you play along with this fun challenge showcasing some of our furry friends.

Because I don't own a pet, I had to adopt one especially for this challenge and what better than one of those crazy dogs, who I named ~ Lucky!! I just couldn't resist making this fun card and of course, I had to go with my favourite from the set ~ I just adore his expression!

So, it's time for this week's brand new challenge and here's how I made this card...

To begin with I cut a panel of watercolour card, 13 x 16cm and misted it lightly with water to dampen the fibres. I then misted Mustard Seed Distress Stain over the top before drying the card thoroughly.

Once dry, I then wanted to add some more colour and for this, I used PaperArtsy Infusions. I sprinkled the smallest amount of Golden Sands and Sunset Beach over the top of my stained card and then misted the Infusions with water, allowing the colour to magically start to appear and blend into the card.

After another blast of heat, I had my basic background and was now ready to add some texture.

To begin, I placed the Bricked Layering Stencil over the top of the the background card and applied Grit Paste directly onto the background. Leave to dry naturally or gently use your heat tool, being careful not to overheat and bubble the paste. Once dry, add some more texture to the surrounding areas using the Splatters Layering Stencil and again dry.
I then needed to add some colour to the stencilled areas and for this, I used my trusty Distress Crayons, adding layers of Mustard Seed, Pumice Stone and Spiced Marmalade to the wall and splatters. Once I was happy with the colour, I then used dry brushed some gesso over the top.
Add a few gesso paint splatters, together with some Black Soot Distress Paint Splatters and dry.

To add some more texture to the background, I applied a small amount of Grit Paste around the edges of the card and once the paste was dry, just ran the Pumice Stone Crayon around the edge and blended it with my finger. I matted the background onto gold metallic kraft card, followed by a layer of Black Soot Kraft Stock.
Before I  mounted the matted layers onto a kraft card blank, which I distressed with a small amount of gesso to the edges, I wrapped some twine around the bottom section of the layers and secured it with a bow, also adding a Typed Token coloured using Walnut Stain, Black Soot and Picket Fence Distress Crayons!
The cute pup is stamped onto watercolour card using Jet Black Archival Ink and then water coloured with Distress Marker Pens...
...before being die cut with the corresponding Sizzix Crazy Dogs die. I also stamped, coloured and die cut the bowl and the bones.
I attached my die cuts to the background using foam pads

To complete my card, I added one of the new quote chips, mounted onto gold metallic kraft card.

A Life Story...

Hello everyone and welcome to a very special post from me today...

Back at the end of November, I received a really exciting email ~ I'd been invited by Tim Holtz and Ranger Ink to be a part of this year's Ranger 2017 Designer Challenge at Creativation (formerly known as CHA) and I can't begin to tell you how thrilled and honoured I was to have been chosen for this!!

The theme was the Evolution of Distress and I had been assigned Distress Crayons, so once all the excitement had sunk in and I had stopped pinching myself, I started to think what I would create for this piece and this, is the project I designed....
I chose to go with a vintage feel...full of layers, texture, vintage ephemera and rusty elements that would compliment the photo of the gorgeous little girl and the little boy all dressed up in his sailor's uniform and I just built up the imagery that I had in my head of these children who were experiencing a moment in their life story and the memories that they would take from this adventure.
As you can see, I added lots of detail to this piece and I also used some of the new dies that were released at the show including the Industrial die which I just loved and will be showing you a piece that I made with that very soon!
There is also lots of texture on this and I loved the way the crayons bought this to life!

...and of course, the hero of this piece was always going to be about the Crayons and I used these in many different ways ~ on the background to created that beautiful blue and hints of rust, I used the crayons to colour my metal Industrial die pieces and I used the crayons to add highlights around each of the layers and to the corrugated card.
I even used them to add more colour to the alcohol inked quote band!
I really hope you've enjoyed this look around my Etcetera Tag and you loved the finished piece! This has been like a dream come true for me and to be featured alongside my friends, Paula, Kaz, Kath, Zoe and of course Tim...was just the best feeling in the world!

Thanks so much for stopping by today and see you soon with another creation from the show!

Use Your Wings and Fly!

Hello friends!

Hope you've all had a great weekend and you're ready for the new week ahead! As always on a Monday, it's time for a brand new challenge over on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog and this week we ask you to SPREAD YOUR WINGS! Whether you choose to create a piece using wings or maybe you want to spread your wings and try a new technique, whatever you choose we can't wait to see what you create and hope you'll play along with this fun challenge.

For my project, I was inspired by one of Tim's Small Talk Stickers, "Use Your Wings" and using various Tim Holtz dies by Sizzix, including the Feathered Wings die, I chose to create a 3D home decor project which would be perfect for Valentine's Day or just to tell someone you love them.

So here were go, it's time for a brand new challenge and here's how I created this piece...

To begin with I took a pine shadow box frame and coated it in gesso to prime the surface. Once the gesso was dry I then started to add my colour. For this I wanted to create a natural looking wooden effect and used Walnut Stain, Ground Espresso and Antiqued Bronze to build up the colour of the wood. Once I was happy with the colour, I dried it thoroughly before sanding back some of the paint to create a more vintage, shabby look. To complete the frame I then added a touch of White Fire Gilding Wax over the surface, which just brings out the natural feel to the wood.
Setting the frame aside, I started work on the background of my project and for this I cut a piece of canvas paper to the size of the aperture and then coated it with a layer of Picket Fence Distress Paint. Heat dry and then start to add some colour and for this, I used Victorian Velvet, Vintage Photo and Antique Linen Distress Crayons, scribbling a small amount of colour onto the surface and then blending it out using a wet wipe.

Blast the surface with heat just to make sure the colour is set and then I wanted to add some texture and for this I took some offcuts of card from my paper scraps box (I think we all have one of these, don't we?) and just laid them down onto the background, slightly offsetting each piece.

Dry brush a layer of gesso over the top and then I went in with the crayons I'd previously used on the background but this time, I wanted more intensity from them, so I added more colour in the areas that I wanted to highlight. To complete the background, I added some Black Soot Crayon around the card panels and around the outside edge before adding splashes of gold paint, Black Soot Distress Paint and gesso!

I then attached the background panel to the inside of the frame.
Now for the fun part, creating and building up that centre piece.
For this I used gold Metallic Kraft Core card and used the Feathered Wings die to die cut the wings. Scrunch the card and then open it out before adding some Vintage Photo Distress Crayon over the top, blending out the colour to create a more rose gold tone to the card.

I layered both sets of wings using foam pads.

Die cut the largest of the Dimensional Stars, again using gold Metallic Kraft Core card and fold along each of the scorelines to create the star shape. Splatter the star with a small amount of black paint and gesso and allow to dry.

Finally, you will need two different sized hearts, one larger than the other and for this, I used the Heartfelt die set and cut the hearts from chipboard. I then coloured them with Candied Apple Distress Paint and added Black Soot Distress Crayon around the edges.

I now had all my pieces to layer up and began by adding the wings over a bed of sisal fibres, which creates some movement to the pieces. Attach the wings directly to the background.

Then take the larger heart and attach the star over the top. Add the smaller heart to the centre of the arrangement and then wrap a piece of gold wire around the arrangement, entwining the heart and star.
Add the wire arrangement to the centre of the wings and use a hot glue gun to secure into place.

To complete this part, I added a quote from the Small Talk Stickers set, Use Your Wings and attached this across the heart.
Underneath the winged hearts, I then added some Letterpress blocks to spell out the word, FLY. The blocks are altered with a small amount of Picket Fence Distress Paint before I added some Spanish Topaz Treasure Gold (this is currently out of stock at the moment but you can use any colour of your choosing) over the top to create a burnished bronze look to the lettering.
Attach the blocks to the inside of your frame and then add some gold stars from the Gilded Remnant Rubs.
Finally, attach some Hex Fasteners to each corner of the frame. I just cut the legs off the fasteners and stuck them directly onto the wood.
I finished the frame by using a Clock Key, which I attached to the top.
I really hope this project has given you some ideas of how you can create a similar piece and of course, you don't have to just use these ideas for a frame, they can easily be used on a card or a canvas!

Elementary, My Dear Watson...

Hello everyone and welcome to the brand new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week we are asking you to...CHILL OUT! So whether you choose to make a winter card, chill out by creating a project or show us your favourite thing that you chill out too ~ we can't wait to see what you create and hope you'll join us for all the fun!

For my project, I chose to use the TV show, Sherlock as my inspiration! After a busy few weeks making top secret projects, shhhhh ~ more about that soon...I like nothing more than relaxing on a Sunday night indulging in some of my favourite shows and this one was the perfect inspiration for my panel!
It's time for a brand new challenge and here's how I created this piece...

To begin with I cut a piece of canvas paper and applied a layer of Picket Fence Distress Paint over the surface. Heat dry the paint and then start to add the colour ~ for this I used gesso and Distress Crayons, Tumbled Glass, Broken China, Peacock Feathers, Crushed Olive and Pumice Stone and just layered my colours, blending them out with a semi dry baby wipe. I also used two of my favourite background stamps, Newsprint and Halftone, to add some more layers and interest and for this, I inked up each of the stamps and randomly stamped it onto areas of the background.
Once I was happy with the 'peeled paint' effect that I'd created I then stamped the London Cityscape scene across the bottom of the panel and colour washed it with Distress Marker Pens before heat setting the stamped area.
To create the focal point, I used one of the Evolution stamps and stamped the image using Jet Black Archival Ink onto a panel of Mixed Media card, coloured with the same crayons as I used for the background. After adding some more highlights of colour to the panel and ageing the edges, I mounted my stamped image onto a piece of Black Soot Core'Dinations card.

To create the lettering and numbers, I used the Halloween Words die and just took the individual letters I needed to spell out 'Baker St'.
I also used some alpha part numbers and letters painted with Antiqued Bronze paint and added the number of Sherlock's house beneath.
Now for the layers and I started by cutting a circle of foil card, embossing it with the Riveted Metal Texture Fade and then creating a rusty effect with Alcohol Inks (Rust and Pitch Black) and Distress Crayons (Vintage Photo and Cracked Pistachio).

Cut the circle in half and after placing the stamped image where you will finally attach it, stick the semi circles behind, so that they appear either side of the image. I also added some Film Tape ribbon to either side.

Mount the stamped panel over the top using foam pads to secure it into place. At this stage, I also added a frame, painted with a combination of Antiqued Bronze and Tarnished Brass Distress Paint and attached it to wind around the image, putting Sherlock in the frame!!
For even more layers, I used the Gadget Gears 2 die to die cut some gears from foil card and inked them with the Alcohol Inks and Crayons to create the rusty effect. I then layered them with various metal sprocket gears and an ephemera piece, and added these around the framed image.
Mount the panel onto a piece of copper metallic kraft core card, followed by a piece of corrugated card distressed with gesso and gold paint and finally a layer of black card.

To complete the panel, I added a Hinge Clip to the top.
I really hope you love this project and it's given you some ideas for the latest challenge.
