Scribble More...

Hello friends...

Hope you've all had a great week and thank you so much for all your visits to my blog last week ~ I was truly blown away with all the lovely comments that you left me, either here or on Instagram and Facebook ~ it really does mean the world to me to read them all and I can't thank you enough.

Today, we begin a brand new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge and this week our theme is called Add Some Red. The DT are also showcasing Inky Antics products within their projects and we are also proud to say that our very own Andrea Ockey Parr designs some amazing stamps for this company and they are so worth checking out!

For my project this week, I fell in love with Andrea's Muse News stamp set and used this to create a card that is perfect to send to any artsy girl that you might know and love...
So, let's get started and here's how I made this card....

To begin with I worked on the image and stamped the 'artsy girl' from the Muse News stamp set, using Jet Black Archival Ink and stamping her onto watercolour card. I then coloured her with a selection of Distress Marker Pens and a water brush. Once I was happy with the image, I wanted to add some quirky highlights and took a white pen and just added some dots to her hair and onto her red top. You'll also notice I added a few freckles to her cheeks and across her nose.
Now that the colouring is done and I'd inked around the edges of the card with Antique Linen and Frayed Burlap Distress Ink, I machine stitched a border before matting the image onto silver metallic card, followed by a layer of burlap that I just frayed slightly around the edges. To complete the image, I wrapped some twine around the matted layers and attached the 'create' Typed Token...
...before placing small Hex Fasteners in each of the four corners.
Moving onto the background, I cut a piece of canvas paper and applied my first layer of paint, Mint Impasto Art Alchemy Paint, using a brayer. After heat drying the first layer, I used the brayer to add a second layer of paint ~ Picket Fence Distress Paint, dried the second layer and then added a third layer using a small amount of Frayed Burlap.

Once the paint was dry, I then added some torn tissue tape and applied it directly onto the background before scraping some gesso over the top of the taped section, using an old discarded credit card.

To add some texture to the background, I applied Grit Paste through the Stitched Layering Stencil, allowed it to dry and then flicked gold paint, followed by Black Soot Distress Paint, across the entire surface.
After machine stitching a 'wonky' border around the edge, I used another of the stamps from the Muse News stamp set, the 'Scribble More' stamp and stamped it once in the bottom left hand corner and then turned it around to stamp a section of it, in the top right hand corner. I then added a Remnant Rub from the Special Delivery set ~ see possibility everywhere.
The background is now complete and ready to mount onto some more layers which included a second painted layer of canvas card, some patterned paper from Tim Holtz's Correspondence set, a red layer of painted card and finally a layer of kraft card, each time leaving a border around the outside. I also added some torn strips of Tim Holtz's Postal design tape, placing them around the edges to appear as if I was attaching the background with the tape.
I then mounted the watercolored artwork onto the left hand side of the background using foam pads.
We're nearly there and all that's left to do is add a few finishing touches and create three small faceted hearts that I added down the side.

For these hearts I used the fabulous Tim Holtz Faceted Hearts die and cut the heart shapes from Mixed Media Heavystock card. After constructing each of the stars, which is super easy as all the scorelines are in the die and you just have to fold and stick ~ I painted each of the hearts with a layer of Candied Apple Distress Paint, followed by a small amount of Black Soot Distress Paint which I dry brushed over the surface ~ the black paint just needs to kiss the surface where the brush catches, that's all, you don't need to cover it.
I applied some gold wax to accentuate the facets and then added them down the side of my card, placing a Star Adornment at the bottom, again coloured with a smidge of gold wax.
Finally, I added a Ephemera piece to the top left hand corner, complete with the number 90 and a small paper clip before adding two further star adornments.
So that completes my project for this week and it was so much fun to use Andrea's fabulous stamps to create this card packed full of layers and dimension!

Don't forget, you can find more inspiration from my talented teamies over on the challenge blog and every week, one lucky random participant has the chance to win a $50 gift voucher from Simon Says StampYou have until Monday 8am Ohio time. 1pm UK time, 2 pm CET to join in and good luck....
