An Unfortunate Ending...

Hello friends and welcome to this week's Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! Our theme for this week is called ~ HEAVY METAL and whether you choose to create the look of metal, use metal or incorporate metal embellishments within your work, we can't wait to see how you interpret this challenge!

For my project this week, I made a clipboard with a Halloween theme, telling the story of a gentleman with an unfortunate ending...a visit from a poisonous spider. I decided to use quite a bit of metal including a rusty metal panel made from metal foil tape and embossed, a metal clip on my clipboard, a frame and even rusty screws.

 

To begin with I created my riveted metal panel and began by covering a piece of heavyweight card with some metal foil tape. I then popped it in the Rivet Texture Fade and ran it through my machine. To create the rusty feel to the panel I then started by adding a layer of Mushroom, Latte and Gold Mixative Alcohol Ink, pouncing the ink over the top of the metal. To create some more texture to the piece, and I really wish you could feel this as it does actually feel like rust, I used Vintage Photo Distress Embossing Powder! Apply a Versamark Ink directly to random areas of the metal panel and  then sprinkle the powder over the top, tap away the excess before gently heating the powder until it melts and you see a change in the appearance. Once the powder has cooled down, rub away the excess particles, (don't put these back in the pot, just throw them away) and this creates a beautiful rust texture. I then added some more depth to the colour by using my Black Soot, Vintage Photo and Rusty Hinge Distress Crayons over the top of the inked surface, blending out the colour with my finger.

Matt the panel onto a piece of gold metallic kraft card which has been sanded to create a more worn, vintage feel and set aside.

Unscrew the clip from the board and set that aside for now. I then covered the board with a piece of paper taken from the Halloween Paper stash and cut to size. Adhere the paper to the board using Collage Medium and also apply a layer of medium over the top.

Once the medium is dry, I ran the Black Soot Crayon around the edges and blended the colour out before adding a couple of Remnant Rubs to each corner of the board.

Now for the clip and to begin with I attached a Crossbones Adornment onto the clip using Collage Medium. To change the colour of the clip, I lightly gessoed the clip, cried it thoroughly and then used a combination of Vintage Photo, Tarnished Brass and Antiqued Bronze Distress Paints just painted over the surface of the metal. I allowed the paint to dry and then added touches of Aged Brass Alchemy Wax over areas of the clip. Attach the clip back onto the board and flick Black Soot Paint over the entire surface before drying completely. Finally add a Halloween Clippings Sticker, placing it just beneath the crossbones adornment.

Adhere the rusty metal panel into place, attaching it centrally onto the clipboard.

Now for the embellishments and I started with my photo frame. I took one of the Framed Portrait images, removing it from the frame. I added a small amount of colour to my photo, just to pick out some detail in his face, rounded the corners of the image with a punch and then inked the edges of the card with some Walnut Stain Distress Ink.

Attach the photo onto a wooden vignette panel for some added dimension. Attach the panel onto your metal background.

Alcohol ink a Baroque Frame using the same colours as was used on the riveted metal panel and just pounce the ink over the top of the metal frame. Once happy, I then smeared a small amount of Black Soot Paint over the top, using my finger, gave a blast of heat to set the paint and attached the finished frame to my photo. I then added one of the resin roses to complete this section.

For the final part, I used one of the mini pocket watches, again altered with alcohol ink to change the colour to a richer tone. I also added a smear of alcohol ink to the glass to create a more vintage feel. Inside the pocket watch was the final part of my story and for this, remove the back of the watch and then using Collage Medium, adhere a circular piece of paper to this section.

Layer a small amount of sisal fibres over the top and then place one of the spider adornments, coloured with Black Soot Paint over the top of the fibres.

Close up the watch and then wrap a piece of twine around the neck. Attach the watch over a bed of cheesecloth, dyed with Pumice Stone and Antique Linen Distress Spray Stain and some sisal fibres.

Add a remnant rub directly onto the glass.

To complete my panel I added some screw heads, three to each side.
