Hello friends and welcome to a brand new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! Our theme for this week is ~ "Thinking Of You" and we can't wait to see your interpretation of this challenge!
For my project, I was inspired by the month of November when we commemorate heroes from all across the world and I created this panel using dies from Tim Holtz to create a striking focal point of poppies against the metallic shimmer of the world.
and here's how I created this piece...
To begin with I cut a piece of canvas paper and applied a layer of Picket Fence Distress Paint over the top before then adding a light wash of colour, Tumbled Glass and Frayed Burlap Distress Crayons to create my background. Blend the colour out using a semi dry baby wipe and then I inked around the edges with Frayed Burlap and Walnut Stain Distress Crayons before machine stitching a border.
To complete the layers on my background, I attached a cut journalling ticket which I stamped with the date of November 11, using a date stamp roller, and once again, added a shadow around the outside with the Black Soot crayon.
Add some gentle flicks of black paint across the surface of the entire canvas and then as a finishing layer, I used an old credit card to add some gesso paint scratches.
Now for the last few details and for this, I used stamps from the Correspondence stamp set and stamped the date mark in the bottom left hand corner and a number in the top right hand corner.
Matt the background onto a layer of metallic kraft card, a piece of patterned paper from the Correspondence stash and finally mount the layers onto a piece of kraft card.
Now to create the embellishments and to begin, I started by making the poppies and for this I used the Tattered Florals die to die cut four large petals and two smaller petals for each flower. I then laid the petals out onto a kraft sheet and spritzed each side with Candied Apple Distress Spray Stain. Heat dry the petals and then lightly scrunch them in your hand before opening them out again and shaping each of the individual petals.
Layer up all four large petals and the two small petals, each time slightly offsetting the layers and then use a brad through the centre of them to hold them all together.
Use the Tim Holtz/Sizzix Large Daisy punch to punch out two pieces of black card and attach these to the centre of your poppies, adding a gem in the middle.
For the globe, I die cut this piece from some of the bronze coloured metallic kraft core card and added foam pads to the back. I then placed it over the top of a circle of Yupo, inked with Denim, Gold Mixative, Sail Boat Blue alcohol ink.
Attach the globe and the poppies onto the matted background layers, using foam pads to add dimension to the die cut pieces..
I also added some foliage using the Fall Foliage Thinlits die and the Garden Greens Thinlits die to die cut from card inked with various tones of green Distress Inks and spritzed with Mica Spray.
Finally, I attached the word Remember from the Big Chat stickers onto kraft card and attached this to the bottom right of my panel.
I just love how those poppies turned out and love the vibrant colour the Candied Apple has given them and they really look gorgeous against the metallic globe ~ I just wish you could all see this piece in the flesh as it really does have such a beautiful shimmer and shine!

ReplyDeleteThis is lovely and as always, it's a treat to see how you've combined those elements and bits of ephemera into new forms. When I lived in England, I loved seeing everyone wearing poppies pinned to their lapels in honor of those whom we remember. This brought that back to me and I'm grateful for those tender emotions!
