Can You Resist?

Hello friends and welcome to a brand new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge, where this week we are focusing on Ranger Ink products and incorporating our theme is all about RESIST!

There are so many ways you can create a resist ~ embossing powder, crayons, Molotow Pens or even masking fluids and we look forward to seeing what you use on your creations!

For my card I chose to use embossing powder and combined it with Distress Spray Stains to create a Batik style background! To be honest, I loved the background so much that I didn't want to cover it up, so created a floral display using the Wildflowers die, that would compliment it perfectly.

and I hope you enjoy the creative process!
To begin with I cut a panel of white card and using one of the smaller doily stamps from the Tim Holtz Doily stamp set, I inked the stamp with Versamark Ink and stamped the doily over the entire area of the card to create a background. You can stamp and emboss each doily separately but because the Versamark ink is slightly tackier, it remains wet for longer, allowing you to stamp the entire background in one go!

Once I was happy with the design, I then sprinkled some Ranger Ink Clear Embossing Powder over the top, tapped away the excess and heat embossed until the powder becomes molten.

For the next stage, I took Fossilized Amber and Cracked Pistachio Distress Spray Stains and lightly spritzed over the surface of the card. The embossed areas will resist the stain and will remain white but if you feel the need and there is any colour on the embossed areas, just dab away with a paper towel before gently heat drying the card.

Once dry, I inked around the edges with a little Tumbled Glass Distress Ink, before inking with some Gathered Twigs.

I then flicked small amounts of Black Soot and Antiqued Bronze Distress Paint across the surface of the card before attaching a strip of burlap across the bottom section.
At this stage, I also added a word band altered with Distress Paints and tied onto the card with some Crinkle Ribbon dyed with Tumbled Glass Distress Stain.
I matted my background card onto brown core'dination card stock and then a layer of corrugated card before mounting it onto a white card blank.

For the floral display, I used the Wildflowers die and die cut some of the stems from Mixed Media card. I then used Distress Inks to ink each of the individual die cuts in a combination of blues and greens before spritzing the stems with Biscotti Perfect Pearls which I decanted into a mister bottle with some water to create a spray.
For the leaves, I used the leaf stamp from Tim's Daydream stamp set and stamped these in Potting Soil Archival Ink over the top of a piece of card, inked with Peeled Paint and Twisted Citron. I then cut out each individual leaf and inked the edges with Walnut Stain DI.
I now had all my elements for the floral display and assembled them on the left of my card, adding rusty wire coils and a crinkle ribbon bow, again dyed with Tumbled Glass Distress Stain.

For the button, I used a metal button from my stash and dabbed the surface with Versamark Ink. I then sprinkled Buttercup Embossing Powder over the top, tapped away the excess and heat embossed the button before adding it to the centre of my bow.
As a finishing touch, I altered the colour of the metal butterfly from Nature Adornments set with Yellow/Blue Prima Opal Magic Art Alchemy Paint and attached it to the background...
....which completes my spring inspired card!

  18. Interesting how many designers this week took the embossing powder route for resisting. You've shown great skill managing the delicate doily patterns! Also, this year's wildflowers are certainly popular and it was clever to tuck them behind that beautiful bow. They look so lovely there.
