Hello friends...
Well, another weekend has come and gone so quickly but it's the start of a brand new week, which means it's the start of a brand new challenge over on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog and this week's challenge is all "about a face". From face stamps to the face of the clock, cameos, silhouettes ~ this week we challenge you to be inspired by a face of some kind and we can't wait to see what you create!! Hope you'll join us...
For me, I couldn't resist the beautiful face of a baby which I found in Tim Holtz's Found Relatives pack. It just shouted out to me to be used and this wallhanging is what I made. As always, I hope you love my project and you adore that precious photo as much as I did...
To begin with, I used an old frame that I had in my stash and gave it a coat of Gesso. Once this was dry, I painted the frame with Antique Linen, Tumbled Glass and a touch of Pumice Stone Distress Ink. I love how the Tumbled Glass when blended with Antique Linen, creates this soft green colour palette. Once I was happy with the colour, I lightly stamped around the frame using the Crackle stamp inked with Watering Can and blotted so that the ink wouldn't be so harsh when I stamped onto the paint. I added some Treasure Gold to age it a little more before starting work on the inside section.
For this, I chose to use some paper from the Wallflower Paper Stash. Once the paper was cut to size and lightly distressed around the edges with a sander, I attached it to the inside of my painted frame.
To create my collaged centrepiece, I started with the Honeycomb Framework Die and die cut Grungeboard, which I then painted with Antique Linen Distress Paint before spritzing it with Prima Gold Foil Color Bloom Spray. I then inked a Size 5 Manila tag with Distress Stain and stamped the verse onto it using black Archival Ink. I used a Hitch Fastener through the hole in the tag and hung a Heart Charm from the fastener.
I then layered the gorgeous vintage photo, edged with Picket Fence Distress Stain, over the top of the honeycomb die cuts, tucking the tag underneath.
For my huge flower, I used some brown paper wrapping, yes...the stuff that comes to pack out a parcel and I thought, you can't waste this, it will come in useful!!! I painted the paper with a coat of Gesso and then die cut various sizes of blooms, using the Jumbo Tattered Florals die.
As you can see, I added quite a few layers to create the flower and then ruffled each of the petals before adding the finished bloom to my layout, together with some cheesecloth, vintage ribbon and some decorative pins.
Finally, I added some pieces of Idea-Ology, an arrow and the beautiful bird, to complete the frame. Both of which I added a touch of Treasure Gold to, to create a gold finish.
For a finishing touch, I added some small studs to each corner, again with a hint of Treasure Gold over the top.
I really hope you've enjoyed my photo tutorial and loved my interpretation of our challenge theme for this week. As always, if you're looking for some more great ideas and inspiration, then you need to look no further than the blog to see all the wonderful creations from my very talented Design Team members and every week, one lucky random participant has the chance to win a $50 gift voucher from Simon Says Stamp.
