Hope you all had a great weekend and thank you so much for all the lovely comments that you left on my last Simon Says Stamp post, it's always so good to read them all and I appreciate every single word.
Today, is the start of a new challenge over on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge blog and this challenge is all about "PASTE". As you probably noticed, stencils are all the rage and there's an increasing variety of paste mediums to go along with that. So, we challenge you to out your paste or stencils and make some texture on your project and this is what I created, as always...I hope you love it!
I love the look of burlap and the texture that you get with it and decided to make my own "burlap look" canvas...so, to begin with, I took a small box canvas and applied Wendy Vecchi's amazing Embossing Paste through the Burlap Layering stencil from Tim Holtz. I really do love these stencils, they are just the right size to work with on so many different projects. I then painted the whole of the canvas with Frayed Burlap Distress Paint to get exactly the right colour I wanted, and needed.
Once the first layer of paint was dry, I then layered some more colours of Distress Paint over the top to achieve a shabby and distressed base layer of paint to my piece and zapped it with a heat tool to dry it superquick. The next part was to start adding colour to the centre of the canvas and I used Evergreen Bough and Antique Linen before applying some Tissue Tape to give that extra layer and some more interest to the background. And that's my canvas done!!
Now to decorate the canvas and for this I started with that wonderful quote and stamp from Wendy Vecchi. I took a piece of Manila card and painted the surface with the Evergreen Bough and Antique Linen Distress Paints before giving it a light wash of Picket Fence over the top. I then inked through the Dot Fade Layering Stencil before stamping the "I Am My Art" quote with black Archival Ink. I then distressed the edges with Walnut Stain Distress Ink and added the quote to my canvas.I applied more Distress Paint onto the metal flowers that I had in my stash and allowed them to dry before adding a touch of Treasure Gold over the top. I arranged these onto my canvas, together with some Wooden Gears from Prima and buttons, again painted with Distress Paint.
To complete the front of my "arty canvas", I added a paint brush with vintage ribbon tied around the handle and a few trinkets attached to the ribbon with an Idea-Ology Wire Pin and attached some decorative pins to the flower arrangement.
The canvas was now complete but just needed a few finishing touches...so, I painted some wooden spools, again from my stash and attached these as feet to the bottom and finally, added a Curio Knob to the top.
...and here is the finished piece!
So, I really hope you loved my "arty box canvas" and for more great ideas and inspiration, then look no further than the blog to see all the wonderful creations from my very talented Design Team members. Every week, one lucky random participant has the chance to win a $50 gift voucher from Simon Says Stamp. Good luck....
