Simon Says Stamp Handmade Holiday Blog Hop ~ Day 2

For my make, I used the gorgeous Etched Berry Branch that cascades down the centre of my card and combined this with a sparkly background created with the Citrine Glitz that is one of the beautiful new colours in the SSS Rainbow Mini glitz collection.

So with everything in front of me, let's get started and here's how I created this card....

MATTED CARD LAYERS

To begin with I cut a panel of White Mixed Media Heavystock Card by Tim Holtz using the third largest of the Simon Says Stamp A7 Thin Frames.

This frame cuts two separate pieces, the central panel and the outer frame section and for this make, I used both die cuts.

Placing the frame to one side until later, and concentrating on the central panel, I started by adding some zig zag machine stitches to the edges, before then applying the Citrine Glitz through the Tim Holtz Sparkle Layering Stencil, applying the paste with a palette knife.

You need to do this in two stages as the stencil doesn't fit across the width of the panel.

I added a few flicks of Tarnished Brass Distress Paint across the surface before setting the panel to one side to dry.

Moving onto the layered background panels ~ I cut and adhered a panel of grey card, trimmed slightly smaller in size than my card blank which measures 14 x 19cm and has the fold at the top.

I followed this by cutting a second panel of white card using the largest die in the A7 Thin Frames set and once again I kept both pieces of the die cut, and mounted these onto my covered card blank.

I then cut a second panel of the grey card, machine stitched a border around the edge and then layered this onto my card blank. Finally I took the glittered panel and that die cut outer frame, and matted both of these pieces onto a piece of matte gold card ~ attaching the glittered panel first and then adhering the thin outer frame around it. I then mounted this finished panel, placing it centrally onto my card front.

ETCHED BERRY BRANCH

For the berry branch foliage, I inked a piece of the Mixed Media cardstock with Iced Spruce, Peeled Paint and Evergreen Bough Distress Spray Stains. Mist the card with a light spritz of water and then spritz the stains over the top. Once I was happy with the colour, I cut all the foliage pieces that I would need for the card. Remember you can cut into these die cuts if you want individual leaves or smaller branches, and that's what I did to create dimension.

With the die cuts in front of me, I used Postbox Red Nuvo Drops to create the berries. Once the berries were set and dry, I added some sparkle by smearing a little Matte Collage Medium over the leaves and then sprinkling Rock Candy Dry Glitter over the top. Tap away the excess and leave to dry.

I splattered some white gesso over the top of the sparkly foliage, and then arranged the foliage to cascade down my card from top left to bottom right.

SENTIMENT PLAQUE

For the sentiment, I used the XL Christmas Greetings stamp set and using the Tim Holtz Stamp Platform, I stamped the Season's Greetings stamp onto a panel of white card in Barn Door Archival Ink. Without removing the stamped panel, I re-inked the stamp with Black Soot Archival Ink, but only added a very light coverage, almost as if you're just kissing the stamp gently! I then re-stamped the sentiment over the top of the previous stamped wording and this just takes off the brightness of the red.

I machine stitched a border around the outside and matted the sentiment onto gold matte card before attaching it to the centre of my card front, using foam pads and arranging it to nestle in amongst the foliage, bringing some of the leaves over the top to soften the straight edges of the sentiment panel.

Finally, to complete my card, I added some gold metallic droplets to the background and the sentiment panel.
