Past Times...

Hello friends and welcome to the brand new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge which this week is called WE'VE GOT YOUR NUMBER and this is an easy challenge to follow because all you need to do to enter is add a number to your project!

This week, I used a mini clipboard to create a project that was full of vintage nostalgia and used one of the gorgeous Paper Dolls as my focal point! I was actually inspired by two of my favourite TV shows of recent years, Mr Selfridge and Downton Abbey and wanted to recreate the era of this image which to me told a story of two elegant young women in the year of 1925...the year of the Paris Exposition and a time of rapidly changing fashion, where dress hems were rising and silhouettes were changing!

 

...it's time for a new challenge!

Using the mini clipboard as my base I began by removing the clip from the board so that I could cover the main surface with paper from the Memoranda Paper Stash. I attached the paper with Collage Medium, also adding a coat of the medium over the surface of the paper. Once dry, I used sandpaper to burnish the edges and create a smooth finish. I then added Walnut Stain Distress Paint to the raw edges around the outside of the board, allowing it to dry thoroughly before moving onto the next stage.

To create a more vintage, worn feel to the board I used my fingertip to apply some gesso around the edges of the paper and then using a Collage Glue Stick, I ran the glue around the edges and then, using the gold Vintage Foil Transfer Sheets, applied the foil (shiny side uppermost) over the top of the tacky glue so that it just caught random areas of the board.

For the clip, I altered this to a copper colour using Rust and Copper Mixative Alcohol Ink and applying the ink using the Applicator tool, making sure I got into all the nooks of the clip.

I attached the clip back onto the board and then added a Sprocket Gear, again coloured with Alcohol Ink to the middle of the clip before applying a little more Transfer Foil over the top of the inked metal.

To complete the clip, I attached a Quote Chip which I aged with a little Vintage Collage Medium and I also attached a piece from the Botanical Layers set.

Now to move onto the focal point of this project and to begin with I took one of the Salvaged Boards and just ran my Sanding Tool over the top to create a more aged, worn effect. I attached the board onto the clipboard using foam pads and then used the Doily 2 die to die cut a piece of card from the Classic Kraft Paper Stash. Place the doily onto the centre of salvaged board and then, to build up the central panel, I added some sisal fibres, one of the Ruler Pieces cut down to size and complete with Index Fasteners on each side and a Paper Doll, which I lightly coloured with a wash of Distress Marker Pens and attached with foam pads to add even more dimension.

To complete this part of the board, I placed two butterflies and a couple of the floral pieces from the Snippets Ephemera set.

Finally, I needed to add the year and my numbers and for this I used Letterpress Blocks. I wanted the blocks to be all the same colour so I coloured them with Black Soot Distress Paint. I then added a some Raven Black Sparks paint over the top before applying Dragon's Eye Sparks paint to each of the numbers. To complete the numbers and tone them into my project, I applied a small amount of Rose Gold Wax over the top before attaching the blocks to my board.

As a finishing touch, I attached the Nailhead Findings either side.
