Hello friends and welcome to the brand new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week, our theme is all about Backgrounds and the team are also showcasing Dylusions products within their projects! If you'd like to join us for this challenge, we can't wait to see what you create and look forward to you playing along...
For my project, I chose to use my small Dylusions journal and Dylusions paints, combined with Tim Holtz Distress Paints to create a background for my journal pages which is all about dreams and was actually inspired by a recent chat on Facebook and one of the gorgeous Paper Dolls from Tim Holtz! I love to create stories around these images and these pages just had to be all about the hopes and dreams of this little ballerina. I hope you love what I've created and love all the details I've included in this project.

To begin with I prepped my pages with a layer of Antique Linen Distress Paint as I wanted a soft vintage feel for my background. I attached some torn pieces of the Symphony Tissue Tape and then started to add some colour by applying Victorian Velvet Distress Paint, keeping the pink in the centre of the pages and then added depth by using the Victorian Velvet and Pumice Stone Distress Crayons.
To create more layers on the background, I applied Hickory Smoke Distress Paint through the Nordic Layering Stencil, adding it randomly across my two pages. I heat dried the pages to set the paint before applying a layer of White Linen Dylusions paint over the top, which helped to blend the background, giving a soft diffused look.
Once I was happy, I then started to add my circles and used the Limor Circles Stamp from IndigoBlu. I stamped the the small and medium outline circles, stamping them across my pages to create the look of bubbles. I then painted the inside of the circles with gesso before adding Victorian Velvet Distress Paint over the top. Once the painted circles were dry, I added some shading with Victorian Velvet and Pumice Stone Distress Paints and added a small amount of White Linen Dylusions paint as highlights within the circles. I added some paint flicks of Black Soot and Gold Acrylic paint as a finishing touch.
To complete my background, I used an old credit card, dipped in Black Marble Dylusions paint and added some paint scratches around the edge of my pages.
Now for the fun part of adding my dream section...
I started by applying strips of Film Ribbon and lace to the centre of the right hand page ~ this will be my base for adding the layers. I then cut a circle of paper from the Memoranda paper stash and matted it onto a circle of gold metallic cardstock, followed by a layer of black card which had a small amount of Victorian Velvet paint applied around the edge.
I then attached my matted circle onto layers of cheesecloth, one coloured with Spun Sugar Distress Spray Stain and the other coloured with Antique Linen Distress Spray.
I also used the largest of the Stacked Stars die to die cut some gold Deco Sheets that I had attached to a thick piece of card and tucked the large die cut star behind the circle.
Using the gorgeous little ballerina Paper Doll which I coloured using Distress Marker Pens, I layered her over the top of some more cheesecloth, this time stained with Victorian Velvet Distress Spray..
I then wanted her to hold a little mirrored star, altered with Mushroom Alcohol ink, so attached a small piece of twine, so that it appeared to be coming from her hand and tied a further piece of twine into a bow and attached this to her hand before adding the star at the end of the twine.
I placed some more mirrored stars around her, tucking them into the cheesecloth and I also added some remnant rubs to the background.I also added some gold sequins in between for a bit of sparkle.
Finally, I added my wording and for this I found the perfect quotes in the Clippings Stickers and attached these onto the left and right hand pages, together with an arrow from the Gilded Accents Remnants set.

Such a stunning background with wonderful depth and detail using all those gorgeous soft tones Emma just perfect for the challenge them. The focal point compliments and accentuates this further with all those fabulously collaged layers full of texture and dimension and really brings the story you are conveying through your pages to life. Having seen the fb chat that inspired these pages ( I think it's the one you are referring to) you really have done a superb job of telling the story of a young Ballerina full of hopes and dreams.
ReplyDeleteAs always I just love your work .
Big big hugs for this weeks smiles :)
