Hello friends and welcome to the brand new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week our theme is all about Transport and for my project I was inspired by a bygone era to create this card full of vintage goodness...
It's time for a brand new....
...and here's how I created this card!
To begin with I cut a panel of canvas paper and and after applying a coat of Picket Fence Distress Paint, I then used a section of blue Distress Crayons to create a base colour on my background.
Once I was happy with the blend of colour, I then added some texture using Grit Paste and applying it in turn through the Treads, the Grid and finally the Industrial Layering Stencils. By using different stencils, it creates different textures and builds up a nice central section for me to build my layers. I added some colour to my layers by using more Distress Crayons in blues and also Pumice Stone and then adding a dry brush of gesso over the top.
After flicking some paint splats across the background using Black Soot Distress Paint, gesso and gold paint, I then heat dried the entire background thoroughly.
For the next stage, I used a combination of Industrial (I just love those nuts and bolts from this die, they are so cool) and Gearhead dies to die cut thick card and chipboard both covered with metal foil tape. Each of the die cut pieces are inked with a combination of Rust, Pitch Black and Sailboat Blue Alcohol Ink and then to add an extra touch of rustiness, I used Vintage Photo and Black Soot Distress Crayons over the top. I then attached all my cogs over my textured area using Collage Medium to secure them into place and arranging them in a cluster in the centre of my panel. At this point I also used a few Kaisercraft Wooden Cogs ~ these are fantastic as an addition to the Tim Holtz die cuts and they work so well together. Each of the wooden cogs are painted with a combination of Antiqued Bronze and Tarnished Brass Distress Paint before adding Black Soot Crayon to vintage them up a bit...
Now that the background is complete, I mounted the entire panel onto a piece of Walnut Stain Kraft Core Cardstock from the Classic Paper Stash, followed by a layer of gold metallic kraft card and then added some wraps of twine placing them horizontally and vertically around the panel, securing the ends of the twine at the back and also adding two Index Clips, at the top and bottom. I then mounted the entire panel onto a black card blank.
Now to create the main focal point of that beautiful car and for this I used Tim Holtz's Vintage Auto stamp and stamped the image onto a piece of Mixed Media card that I had inked using Old Paper and Vintage Photo Distress Inks. I gave the stamped image a hint of shading using Distress Marker Pens and then stamped the wording from the Dapper Stamp set beneath the car.I added a rub on and the Traveler ephemera piece from the Snippets set and then mounted the image onto a piece of torn corrugated card, which I had painted with a layer of Antiqued Bronze Distress Paint. Attach the image centrally over the top of the metal cogs.
I finally added an arrow Remnant Rub from the Special Delivery set and used a Finnabair Mini Hardware piece.
To complete the stamped section I stamped the hat from the Dapper set and cut it out, then placed it onto my layered section, adding a star adornment to the band.
I really hope you've enjoyed the process behind this card and if you like all things vintage with a touch of Downton inspiration, then this is the perfect card for any dapper gentleman who adores his vintage autos!
