You Make My Heart Smile

Hey everyone and welcome to a brand new week over on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog and this week, our theme is...Spritz and Spray! So, whether you want to use Distress Spray Stains, Perfect Pearls or even custom make your own sprays for cards, canvases or layouts ~ we can't wait to see what you will create!

For my project, I was inspired by vintage tapestry that I had noticed when I went on a tour around Buckingham Palace last year and it struck me as being so beautiful and I thought I would try and replicate the look of it. I also thought, because I missed out on making a tag, that this would be the perfect opportunity to try out Tim Holtz's technique that was used on his 12 Tags of 2015.

To begin with I cut a panel of burlap from the Textured Surfaces pack and placed the Flourish stencil over the top before spritzing Candied Apple Distress Stain through the stencil. Carefully, remove the stencil and either heat dry or set aside and leave to dry naturally, whilst moving onto the background.

For the background, I started by cutting a piece of thick card and applying torn pieces of Tissue Wrap, sticking them with Multi Medium, to random areas of the card panel. After a blast of heat, I then spritzed the background using Vintage Photo, Antiqued Bronze and Antique Linen Distress Spray Stains, allowing the sprays to mix and blend together.

Once I was happy with that and the background was thoroughly dry, I took an old credit card and scraped some gesso over the top before adding paint scratches using the edge of the card.

Ink around the edge of the panel with Vintage Photo and Ground Espresso and then wrap twine around the panels before matting onto red card and mounting it onto a white card blank.

Now, for the burlap panel...and for this, I stitched around the outside of material and then gently frayed the edge before matting onto a piece of kraft card, followed by gold Metallic Kraft Core card stock. Wrap some more twine around the burlap panel layers.

I mounted the burlap panel onto my inked background.

Next, I took a piece of mount board and cut it down to ATC size. I applied a coat of gesso over the top before adding torn tissue tape. I then added a blend of Antique Linen Distress Paint with a touch of Frayed Burlap. Ink the edges before applying swipes of Collage Glue around the edge and adding touches of gold foil using transfer sheets.

Die cut a chipboard heart using the Heartfelt die set and paint with Candied Apple.

Ink the edges of the heart with Black Soot Distress Ink and then mount your ATC onto the burlap panel. Add a shadow around the edge of the heart using Black Soot Distress Marker Pen. Stamp the No.5 from the Correspondence stamp set onto the bottom left corner.

Attach the Picket Fence Distress Marker to the Distress Marker Spray Tool and spritz white ink over the top of the burlap and the ATC.

Attach a Small Talk sticker, mounted on gold card over the top of the heart.

To complete the card, I added a red button and popped an alcohol inked Heirloom Rose into the centre.

As a finishing touch, I added faux stitching around the outside of the mounted panels.
