You Are My Sunshine

Hello and welcome to a brand new challenge for the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog! Our theme for this week is, A Ray Of Sunshine and the team is also showcasing Dina Wakley products within our projects! So, whether you choose to create a scrapbook layout, journal page or a card...we want to see how you interpret our challenge and can't wait to see what you make!

When deciding on my project, my first thought was to do full on Dina but after thinking about it and because the title of You Are My Sunshine came into my head ~ I chose to mix it up a little and combine Dina Wakley with Tim Holtz to create this bright card with techniques that can be used on journalling, scrapbooking or card making. I chose to use a beautiful Vintage Photo Booth image but you could so easily replace it with a precious family photo or image of your choice!

So, here we go...

To begin with I cut a panel of paper from the Wallflower Paper Stash, slightly smaller than my card blank and matted it onto yellow card stock, leaving a border around the edge. I then mounted it onto my card blank which I had already inked around the edge to create a distressed look.

I then needed to create my background and for this, I cut a piece of good quality thick white card, (or you can use Manila Card and add a layer of Picket Fence Distress Paint over the top of the card before adding your colours) and using a small amount of Dina Wakley's Heavy Duty Acrylic Paint in Lemon and applied the colour to my card using a brush. I blended some Antique Linen onto the card and then inked the edges with Walnut Stain Distress Ink.

To create the stencilling, I laid the Daisies stencil over the top of my painted background and lightly inked through the stencil using Mustard Seed and Fossilised Amber Distress Inks. Keeping the stencil in place, I then applied Transparent Texture Paste through the stencil, over the top of the ink. This creates a beautiful glazed look to the stencilled areas of the card.

Remove the stencil carefully and allow to dry before machine stitching around the edge and matting the background onto gold metallic kraft core card stock.

I then wrapped some twine around the centre of the matted layers before mounting it onto my card blank using foam pads to add dimension. Add a couple of Remnant Rubs onto the background to complete it.

As many of you know, I love layers of embellishments and building up dimension and depth and when I was thinking about the layers, I had some scraps of paper from the Wallflower Paper Stash on my desk and because I hate to waste anything, I thought..."why not use these" and fussy cut around the flowers on these scraps of paper which you can see behind the photo.

I also used the Stacked Heart Die to die cut gold metallic card stock and you can just see that behind the image, which is mounted on distressed corrugated cardboard from the Textured Surfaces pack and some white cotton thread fibres. 

I also placed some of the small die cut hearts back into the die cut frame.

Now, for the finishing touch, I wanted thought how cool a feather would look on this piece but I didn't have any to hand! BUT, I did have the really cool Feather Duo die and Texture Fade which I used to die cut and emboss card and then coloured using Picket Fence, Antique Linen and a touch of Hickory Smoke Distress Paints. I then smeared a small amount of Glossy Accents onto the end of the feather and dipped it into Vintage Glitter Dust.

I attached the feather across my embellishments, together with a bottle top with a Gumdrop centre.

For the message, I cut a panel of card and inked it with Antique Linen Distress Ink before using the Hero Arts Printer's Alphabet Stamps to create my wording...

...and added the message to my finished card project!
