Watercolour Fashion

Hey everyone!

Welcome to a brand new challenge over on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog and this week, our theme is...Wonderful Watercolour!

From using Distress Ink, watercolour markers, spray inks or a watercolour set ~ watercolour and watercolour like effects are everywhere these days and this week we encourage you to be inspired by this technique (faux or the real deal) and get creative!

For my project, I was inspired by my dreams and aspirations of being a fashion designer when I was a little girl! I've always loved the sketchy drawings of a designer and watching how a finished couture piece can come together from these beginnings and with this in mind, I created my layered fashion inspired canvas panel.

To begin with, I took a flat canvas panel and applied a coat of Antique Linen Distress Paint over the top. When this dry, I then added a small amount of Frayed Burlap Distress Paint using my finger to blend the colour. I heat dried the canvas thoroughly and then, added a small amount of Salty Ocean and Mermaid Lagoon Distress Paint, spritzed the paint with water and moved the canvas around to let the paint drip and blend before blasting it with heat again.

When the paint is dry, I then applied some Texture Paste through the Flourish Layering Stencil, let the paste dry and finally, flicked Black Soot Distress Paint over the surface and added small amounts around the outside edge of the canvas. Leave to dry before stamping numbers onto the background using stamps from the Correspondence stamp set.

For my layers, I stamped the Runway image onto a piece of watercolour card and using Mermaid Lagoon and Blueprint Sketch Distress Stains, applied to my craft sheet ~ I watercolored the image with the stains. For the skin tone, I used the Antique Linen Distress Marker Pen, again blending out some of the colour with a water brush.
Once happy with my image, using the remaining stains on my sheet, I flicked small amounts of colour onto my card and inked the edges with Antique Linen Distress Ink before machine stitching around the outside in a random fashion, leaving strands of cotton hanging.
Stamp the wording "Be Original" from the Crazy Talk Stamp Set, onto the card and add torn piece of tissue tape and a Small Talk Sticker.
Whilst you still have some stains left on your craft sheet, mop them up with another piece of card, this will become the backing layer for your stamped image. Once again machine stitch in a random fashion around the blue inked card, leaving the threads hanging loosely.
Use foam pads to attach the blue inked card onto the canvas, placing it at a slight angle. Cut a piece of the tape measure ribbon and wrap around the layers of card and canvas, securing the ends at the back. Place your stamped image centrally onto the canvas, using foam pads.

I added frayed pieces of torn Eclectic Elements material and tucked them underneath the layers.
I added some vintage buttons, decorative pins, pearls and sequins as finishing touches, together with stamped images of the cotton spools from the Tim Holtz Haberdashery stamp set.
To complete the canvas, I added an old paintbrush, dipped in some blue paint and attached it across my canvas, adding a scruffy bow and a loop pin.

I loved creating this piece of watercolour fashion and hope you've enjoyed the process behind this canvas.
