Inspiration and Imagination ~ Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge

Hi everyone and welcome to this week's brand new challenge over on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog!

This week's challenge is called ~ "I" Scream for.....

From ice cream to IndigoBlu, and inks to ice resin ~ this week the letter 'i' is our inspiration and we can't wait to see how you will be inspired this week?

For my project, I created a canvas that was inspired by a world of pure imagination and one of my favourite musicals/books, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory...

So, to see how I created this piece ~ come with me and you'll be able to enter my world of pure imagination...

To begin with I took an 8" square canvas board and applied a layer of Dina Wakley's Sky Blue Paint over the top. I then layered some more colour over the top using Tim Holtz's Picket Fence, Twisted Citron, Stormy Sky and Tarnished Brass Distress Paint which all blended together perfectly.

Once I was happy with my background, I heat dried the paint and then sponged some more Antiqued Bronze paint around the edge. Another blast of heat to dry it was needed before moving onto the next stage.

Place the Layering stencil onto random areas of the background and sponge a small amount of Stormy Sky Distress Paint through the Bubble Layering Stencil. Once dry, I dipped a Distress Paint bottle top into Black Soot Distress Paint and stamped the circles onto the background. Heat dry the paint, then overstamp the circles with the bottle top using gesso, slightly offsetting them to the original black circles to create a shadow.

When dry, I applied Texture Paste through the Traveler Layering Stencil, adding the words Explore and Adventure onto the top left and bottom right hand corners of the canvas.

I also added paste through the Dot Fade Layering Stencil and attached torn pieces of Tissue Tape onto the painted background. For the final layer of texture, I mixed copper micro beads and glass glitter into soft matte gel and then applied to the canvas with a palette knife.

Finally, to complete the background add flicks of Black Soot Distress paint across the canvas.

Die cut the World Globe and some clouds (using the clouds from the Mini Airplane and Clouds Movers and Shapers die set) from Metallic Core'dinations card. Ink the surface of the die cuts with Hazelnut, Gold Fixative and a touch of Pitch Black Alcohol Ink.

I matted the globe onto a circle of Core'dinations card using foam pads to add dimension and attach this and the clouds to my canvas.

I used a few of the stamps from the Correspondence stamp set to add more interest to my background before adding the wording using Alpha Parts painted with Distress Paints, Chit Chat Stickers and Big Chat stickers. I then applied Tarnished Brass Distress paint to the surface of the Adornment Arrow and wrapped some twine around it before attaching it to the word arrangement.

As the finishing touch I added a hinge clip altered with Picket Fence and Tarnished Brass Distress Paint and attached a swivel clasp and enamel tag to the clip. I then added Remnant Rubs over the top of the tag to complete the project.

I really hope you've enjoyed this tutorial and that you love this canvas! I just wish you could see it in reality as it captures the light so beautifully and that metallic kraft core card stock is just a wonderful addition to my paper crafting!
