Transportation ~ Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge

Hey everyone!

Welcome to this week's brand new challenge over on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog, which is all about TRANSPORTATION!

So whether you are thinking trains, planes, automobiles or even a boat ~ how are you getting around these days? Whether inspired by the metal and gears or wanting to create a steampunk jalopy ~ this week team member Anna-Karin challenges you to be inspired by transportation!

For my project, I wanted to whisk you back to days gone by and create this vintage themed burlap using a sleigh ride through a cold an icy winter's as my inspiration. As always, I hope you love what I've created and enjoy reading how I made this piece!
To begin with I took the 6" x 8" Burlap Panel and applied Tumbled Glass and Picket Fence Distress Paint over the surface and left it to dry whilst I got to work on making the background for my stamped image.

I cut a piece of Manila card to measure 6" x 4" and swiped the card through some Tumbled Glass, Picket Fence and Brushed Pewter Distress Stains applied to my craft sheet and then spritzed with water. Once I'd picked up all the stain, I heat dried the card and then went back to the residue stain on my sheet to pick up any small droplets. When I was happy with the background and it was thoroughly dry, I then added some texture paste through the Snow Fall stencil and allowed this to dry.

I stamped the sleigh ride image directly onto my inked background before mounting the completed card onto a piece of paper that I distressed and machine stitched around the edge, taken from the Wallflower Paper Stash. This works beautifully as a vintage background.
Attach the mounted image onto the front of your canvas using Multi Medium.
Wrap a piece of burlap around the bottom of the canvas and add the Ephemera strip over the top. Attach a piece of paper string and tie into a bow on the right hand side.
Now to add all the decoration and for the snowflake arrangement in the corner, I used the Rosette Snowflake to die cut three different sized snowflakes from the remainder of the paper that I used as the mount. I made up each snowflake and added a sequin and pearl to the centre of two for a bit of glimmer and sparkle.
I then die cut some of the Holiday Greens from Kraft Core Nostalgic Cardstock and after shaping the foliage, spritzed it with Picket Fence Distress Spray Stain to give an icy, snowy appearance.

I added the snowflakes and foliage to my panel and added some real moss, a Tidings Token, twine and decorative pins to the arrangement. As a final touch I placed a couple of mirrored stars amongst it.
The small Christmas tree which sits in the bottom right hand corner is dyed with Iced Spruce Distress Spray Stain and rolled in Glossy Accents which allows the Rock Candy Distress Glitter to cling to the branches of the tree. I trimmed the back off the tree so that it would sit flat against the canvas and attached it with hot glue. Attach the Christmas Day Ephemera piece and place small pearls onto the Christmas Tree.
As a final added touch, I added some sequins to the background and placed a Curio Knob on the top of my burlap panel, just to give it that extra bit of decadence to the finished project!
I hope this project has inspired you to make wonderful festive pieces that can be displayed in your home or if you can bear to part with it, to be given as Christmas gifts this year but as always, I'd love to see what you create!

  20. This is SO scrumptious (if such a word could be applied to a burlap panel)! I always love to see your use of color and the way you have this unique blend of elegance and creativity. Another great project and I especially love the sequins at the center of the snowflakes.
