Stamp and Stencil Fun ~ Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge

Hello everyone...

Hope you've all had a wonderful weekend and can you believe how fast the last week has flown by? Today, we have a brand new challenge starting over on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog and this week we challenge you to some "STAMP AND STENCIL FUN". Whether you stick with STAMPtember stamping or mix it up and pull out a stencil ~ this week we want to see how you stamp or stencil your way into crafty fun!

I've absolutely loved this week's theme and, I definitely stamped and stencilled my heart out and loved every minute of it to create this hanging full of inky goodness!

...and here's how I created it!

To begin with, I took a piece of white card, cut to 6" square and swooshed it through some Evergreen Bough, Picket Fence and Brushed Pewter Distress Stains that I applied to my craft sheet and then spritzed with water. I picked up all the ink from the mat and at this point, if you do have any residue ink left over, either use another piece of card to mop it up or swipe your existing card through it to give more depth of colour. Once the card is dry, I then used Multi Medium to attach some torn Tissue Wrap over the top of the inked card, before applying a very thin coat of Picket Fence over the top.

Next, I laid a Tim Holtz Latticework Layering stencil over the top of my card and using the Distress Marker Spritzer, I misted Black Soot through the stencil onto random areas of my card. After a quick blast with a heat tool to set the ink, I then took the gorgeous Simon Says Stamp Zig Zag Dots stencil, placed over the top of my card and applied Texture Paste through the stencil. Move the stencil around the card to apply the paste onto different areas.

Once the card was completely dry, I matted it onto some textured paper and machine stitched around the edge. I then stamped a Tim Holtz message directly onto the background using black Archival Ink.

The next stage was to create the larger background for this piece and for this, I used an 8" square piece of chipboard and gave it a coat of Gesso. When the Gesso was dry, I then applied a layer of Evergreen Bough Distress Paint over the top. Dry this coat of paint thoroughly and then, as with the previous layer, add torn pieces of Tissue Wrap over the top. Add another light wash of Distress Paint blending Evergreen Bough with a touch of Picket Fence and dry.

Lay down the stencil over the top of the painted surface and again, using Black Soot Distress Marker and the spritzer, lightly spritz through the stencil and heat set with a heat tool.

Add some streaks of white acrylic paint onto the corners and then mount the previous matt over the top of the painted chipboard, using foam pads.

Now we need to embellish and for this I chose to use the Layered Dragonfly. I attached a piece of metal foil tape over Grungepaper and then die cut and embossed the dragonfly. I applied various shades of blue and green Alcohol Ink to the surface, blending it with gold mixative.

I added some sprocket gears and a game spinner to the dragonfly's body and then attached it to my wallhanging, laying it over the top of some cheesecloth.

Finally, I added some more gears, a hinge clip and an adornment arrow which I altered with Picket Fence Distress Paint.
