Could It Be Magic... Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge

Hello everyone...

This week's challenge over at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog was chosen by my fellow DT member, Dan and he wanted us to put some magic into our challenge. Whether you have a magician's trick, want to show us a card trick, have a magical product you can't work without or perhaps are inspired by a story or movie that has a magical theme ~ we can't wait to see! The magic of this challenge is that you can be inspired any way you like and we can't wait to see what you create!

For my piece, I wanted to create some fairy magic and was inspired by my favourite Disney character and Peter Pan's sidekick, the feisty fairy ~ Tinkerbell. As always, I hope you enjoy the creative process of this piece and love what I've created...
I started with one of the Burlap Panels, from the set of 2 and applied a layer of torn Tissue Wrap down one side of the panel, stuck down with Glue N' Seal. I then added a wash of Shabby Shutters and Tumbled Glass Distress Paints, with a touch of Broken China, over the top, blending the paints with a little water to achieve the colour I wanted. Once the paints were dry, I added some Wendy Vecchi Embossing Paste through the Stars Layering Stencil and allowed that to dry. To complete the background of my burlap panel, I added random flicks of white paint, using a paint brush and a piece of Tissue Tape onto the left hand side.

I now started to create my fairy and for this I used the mannequin from the Sewing Room die and die cut a piece of corrugated cardboard. I ripped some of the top layer from the card to reveal the corrugations and then applied a gentle wash of Picket Fence Distress Paint over the top. I added some tulle from my stash to form the skirt and then wrapped some Crinkle Ribbon, dyed with Shaded Lilac Distress Stain and tied this around the waist. As a finishing touch, I added a Prima flower and a decorative stick pin.
The next stage was to create the wings and for this, I used the Layered Wings die to die cut Grungeboard. I painted the Grungeboard wings with a good coat of Picket Fence and then added some Glossy Accents over the top before applying the Rock Candy Clear Distress Glitter.
Once the wings were completely dry, I added a few Mica Flakes to give that extra glitz to them and then, layered them up and added them to my mannequin's body, which I then attached to the burlap panel.
I added Chit Chat Stickers down the side of the panel, and edged each sticker with the Pumice Stone Distress Marker Pen, and then crackled some Corked Vials, using a layer of Glue N' Seal, allowing it to dry before then applying a layer of Distress Rock Candy Crackle Paint over the top. Once this was dry, I then applied some Pool Alcohol Ink to the bottle to give that gorgeous aqua tone.
Each bottle has twine wrapped around them and the largest vial is filled full of fairy dust (glitter) and I used Remnant Rubs to add "Make A Wish" onto the bottle.
To complete the canvas, I attached the bottles around the base of the fairy, together with some cheesecloth.
...and that completes my burlap panel, full of fairy magic and maybe, who knows...if I wish hard enough, it will come to fruition! It's always worth a try and I do believe that dreams can come true and seeing as it's my birthday tomorrow, I get a second chance of those dreams coming true when I blow out the candles on my cake!
So, that's it from me for today and I hope you've enjoyed today's photo tutorial of how I made this canvas. As always, if you're looking for some more great ideas and inspiration, then you need to look no further than the blog to see all the wonderful creations from my very talented Design Team members and every week, one lucky random participant has the chance to win a $50 gift voucher from Simon Says Stamp. Good luck....
