So let's get started...

You'll have arrived here from the amazing project that Vicki has shared on her blog and I hope you love the piece that I've chosen to share with you ~ my 1925 'Girls With Pearls" Vignette Tray, created for the feminine side of the idea-ology booth.
This project was actually inspired by the image that I found in the new set of Paper Dolls and as soon as I saw these two beautiful ladies, I just knew I wanted to create a project that really did epitomise the swinging 20's, a period in time that I just adore.

So, to begin with I took the smaller vignette tray and gave it a coat of gesso to prime the surface, inside and out. I then painted the tray in Weathered Wood Distress Paint, giving it a couple of coats and allowing it to dry thoroughly in between each layer of paint.

To age the tray and create a more worn look to the exterior, I then sanded some of the edges to reveal the wood beneath the paint and applied a hint of Gold Mixative Alcohol Ink to add a subtle shimmer and shine to the paintwork.
For the inside, I used some of the beautiful new Worn Wallpaper and attached this with Matte Collage Medium to the back wall of the tray. Because the tray is slightly longer in length than the box, I cut an extra panel from a second sheet and attached it along the bottom section as the join will be hidden by the pearls.

Next, I wanted to add the pearls and for these I used the Baubles Findings and coloured a third of the pearls with Pink Sherbet Alcohol Ink and a third with Mushroom Alcohol Ink and left the remainder, white. I then attached each of the pearls, one by one, to the base of my tray, adhering them over a bed of cheesecloth and using the Matte Collage Medium to secure them into place. I then set this to one side and left the pearls to dry thoroughly overnight so that they would set and not go anywhere.
Moving onto the rest of the embellishments, I started with the frame that sits at the back of the girls and chose to use one of the Vignette Frames. Again, I primed the surface with a coat of gesso before painting the frame with Antique Linen Distress Paint. Once the painted surface was dry, I then added some Gold Mixative Alcohol Ink over the top  to accentuate the beading.
I then took a Vignette Panel, which are the same size as each of the frames and work beautifully together and attached one of the ephemera pieces from the Collector Ephemera Layers, again attaching the piece to the surface using Collage Medium. Once this was in place, I attached the frame over the top and added one of the designs from the Salvaged design tape set, to hide the join.
The next morning when the pearls were rock hard and set into place, I then attached my framed panel and added my beautiful paper doll image which was lightly coloured with Distress Marker Pens.
I then attached a Snarky Small Talk Sticker to a piece of chipboard to strengthen it and placed the sticker along the base of the tray ~ if you haven't seen these stickers, you MUST check them out, they are the best! To complete this section, I altered a couple of the metal corners from the Vignette Accents set with gold mixative alcohol ink and adhered them to the bottom left and right hand corners.
I also attached one of the Vignette Accent pieces, again altered with alcohol ink and adhered this with Collage Medium to the top of the tray.
To complete this project, I used the numbers from the Numeric set to add 1925 to the inside of my frame and also attached a star adornment. All of these metal adornments were lightly inked with the gold mixative alcohol ink.
As you can see from the photo below, there is so much dimension inside this tray and everything from this new release just work so well together...they are a match made in heaven!
Thanks so much for stopping by today and a huge thank you to Tim, Paula, Richele and Mario for inviting me to be a part of this wonderful creative adventure and for everything they do!

It's now time to hop on over to Cathie Parreco to check out her stunning project!

See you soon, Emma x

  5. Lovely. Last fall I did a vignette tray with a smaller tray inside and I lined the bottom with the bubbles colored green.I loved it so much I colored some baubles in Christmas colors and filled the small vignette box entirely with various sized and colored baubles. Then I added German glass glitter. It was so stunning I almost didn't give it as a gift.

To you: Love this project so much. The added detail of the gold alcohol ink on the metal piece really elevates them to something and I love the added texture it brings. The colors you chose for the baubles is perfection with the girls and the wall paper. Beautiful piece. .
