Stamp and Mist ~ Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge

Hey everyone and welcome to a brand new week and a brand new challenge over on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge blog! This week is all about STAMP + MIST and we want to see a project that features at least one stamp and one mist or colour wash/spray. There are so many possibilities from using the mist to ink a stamp, applying with a paintbrush to a stamped image or embossing or stamping an image and then spraying over it. Whatever you choose to decide, we can't wait to see your finished project....

For my project this week, I was inspired by the shimmer and sparkle of a moonlit sky and I used stamps and mists to create a background on my wall panel. This piece is packed full of texture and has so many layers building up to the main focal point.

Hope you enjoy the process of how I created this project...

To begin with, I took a piece of watercolour card, measuring 18cm square and began by applying some texture paste through the Tim Holtz Crackle Layering Stencil.
Once the paste was dry and I had the texture I needed, it was time to start breaking out those sprays and for this I chose to use ~ Brushed Pewter, Chipped Sapphire, Black Soot and Broken China. I misted each of the sprays onto the watercolour card to build up this wonderful fusion of colour and finished with a very light misting of Black Soot over the top. You really don't need to be too heavy handed with this, you just need a hint!
Once the background is dry, we can start on the stamping part of this project and I used the Retro Circles from the Psychedelic Grunge stamp set and stamped directly over the top of the background using black Archival Ink. To create some more interest, I then added another stamped layer using the Type stamp and stamping onto random areas of my background.
Next, and you might just see this in the photos, I added some torn strips of tissue tape to the central area of the panel. This will form a background to the central arrangement of layers that I will be adding later. Finally to complete the stamped and misted background, I added some flicks, spots and drags of Picket Fence Distress Paint and spritzed with a final misting of Antique Gold Colour Bloom Sprays.
The next stage was to start building up the multiple layers and I started this process by using a palette knife to add some 3D gel onto the background before sprinkling some silver Micro Beads, copper glass glitter and clear glass beads over the top.
Whilst the gel is drying and the beads are setting, I moved onto the die cutting part and began by covering some thick card with a layer of Metal Foil Tape. I the used the Gadget Gear die to die cut three gears ~ two large and one smaller gear before covering each with a combination of Black Soot and Brushed Pewter Distress Paint. Once the paint is dry, I lightly sanded over the top with sandpaper to reveal some of the original foil tape and to create a more distressed feel to the gears.

I used the remaining card which is covered in metal foil tape to die cut some of the stars using the Crescent Moon and Stars die and also the "Twinkle" wording from the Holiday Words die set. I then applied a combination of Pitch Black and Gold Mixative Alcohol Ink over the top of the die cut pieces.
The moon is die cut from Grungepaper using the moon from the Mini Owl and Crescent Moon Movers and Shapers die set. I then painted the moon with a layer of Picket Fence Distress Paint before applying some Glossy Accents over the top. Whilst the Glossy Accents is still wet, sprinkle with a layer of Rock Candy Distress Glitter and tap away the excess.
Now comes the fun part of building up my midsummer night scene and for this I just layered all my die cuts over the top of the background, adding a coil of wire thread and some cheesecloth before attaching all my alcohol inked stars around the outside of the arrangement in the centre.

To complete this panel, I cut a piece of board to measure 21cm square and painted the board with Paper Artsy Black Dress Fresco Finish chalk paint. Once the paint was dry, I added a layer of PaperArtsy Crackle Glaze over the top, dried the glaze and then added a coat of SnowFlake Fresco Finish paint and just allowed for the crackles to appear.

Finally, I matted the main section onto black card and mounted it onto my crackled background...

I really hope you've enjoyed this tutorial and that you love the final project. I just wish you could see it all in reality as it sparkles and shimmers so beautifully in the light but was a little difficult to pick up on camera.

    1. Thank you so much for your lovely comment Marcie, I really do appreciate it! In answer to your question, I used a hot glue gun to attach all my pieces into place but each layer was supported by the layer underneath and all the die cut pieces are cut from chipboard or Grungeboard which makes them fairly robust and gives them great stability! Hope this answers your question and if you need any further help, please don't hesitate to ask... :)
